CVN is the Champion owner, going by the way Equus awards have always chosen the winner

He’s the champion owner in the eyes of the NHRA

Not sure if Equus changed the rules for their award this year ?

Close either way, i see Grant Knowles website have called Mrs Viljoen the winner already with a warning that they don`t really know

The Equus Award for Champion Owner EXCLUDES restricted races - so if the stats as shown above are correct, Suzette Viljoen will receive the Equus Award for Champion Owner.

When did they change the rules HAWK?

And the official position of the Equus Awards Committee is that the Equus Award for Champion Owner WILL be presented to the Owner who won the most stakes EXCLUDING prize money earned in restricted races and the Trophy will be engraved and presented on 17 August accordingly.
