... or just jack-up the production of TellyTrack like GBI and France do where the lack of crowds is not noticed. It can be done but the directorship is lacking.

I suppose we will have to wait for the 'official' announcement (hopefully today) - I assume it could be a negotiated agreement - currently the rules as they are not crystal clear - would any race meeting not mean a 'gathering' ? - taken literally imo the 'no gatherings bar funerals' could be a sticking point

But then surely rugby matches etc. can also be classified as a 'gathering' ?

The race meeting should go ahead. The Squirrel said commercial travel was still going ahead. Im at work with over a 150 people all around me who leave and come back tmrw after going to a lot of different places. If this is not a gathering what is?? So trainers and grooms and jocks are working and imo that means they should be free to travel and get the job done. Malls are all operating with hundreds of people and businesses open. I cannot see why racing without the public should not go ahead. As I say just my opinion.

Trainers, grooms, jocks, handlers, logistics and administrators are conducting business to satisfy leisure for owners and punters. Huh?

Clientele are in it for leisure but their prostitutes are in it for business. Mac, what are you saying?

It will be back to queueing outside supermarkets , shops etc and the numbers inside will be restricted, so it's a case of rotation of customers with a maximum capped inside. Expect delays because of increased temp checks and sanitising.

In view of the not so dire situation last year during the 1st week of July 2020 as compared to the position we are in now it will be in the best interests of all participants that the Vodacom Durban July is delayed to either the 24/7 or 31/7.

In the interests of relying too heavily on online betting and losing turnover from walk in customers...…...

Just my 2 cents.

COVID-19 ADJUSTED LEVEL 4 – PROTOCOLS FOR RACING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that following President Ramaphosa’s address to the Nation last night and the effected change to Adjusted Level 4, it has deemed it appropriate to institute the following measures to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus and to protect the horseracing industry and its participants.

Jockey travel will be restricted and every rider will be required to be domiciled in the Racing District where he/she elects to ride in, on or after Sunday, 4 July 2021. Once a Rider has ridden in a race in a District on or after this date, he/she will not be permitted to ride in another District until further notice, this includes work riding as well.

Racing will return to the original “Racing Behind closed doors” protocols which will prevent any person, other than those that are in receipt of Essential Permits to attend race meetings.

Effectively this means that Owners and their guests will not be permitted on course during race meetings.

The situation will be carefully considered on Sunday, 11 July 2021 to establish if there has been any positive changes that may permit any relaxations to these protocols.

The National Horseracing Authority urges all stakeholders to ensure that the non-pharmaceutical measures of social distancing, frequent washing of hands and the mandatory wearing of clean masks be strictly adhered to. This “ tsunami” third wave is extremely infectious and the continuation of racing is highly dependent on each and every individual playing their part.

Is there a directive from Phumelela and GC re branches - surely you cannot have people sitting in the totes? Bet and leave or telebet - They should revise their restriction on Teletrack and make it free on Saturday

An issue too, for me, seems to be that the July has been prioritised over Level 4. They might get bitten.

I see that casinos are closed according to a report I've just read...what about totes and bookies? Very vague but I suppose restricted entry and then exit after a bet maybe?

Yip - very confusing - surely a 'gathering' is a 'gathering' - so strictly interpreting the rule, would mean no racing - as jocks, trainers and all others needed to hold a race meeting constitutes a 'gathering' ? On the other hand, a race course can be seen as a 'place of work' - so then a 'gathering' is permitted - and I suppose the same goes for a rugby match (the players etc go there to 'work') - so that would be ok

Let's hope for the sake of the July (and the B&I Lions tour), that the 2nd interpretation is the one that the Powers that Be will see as the correct one
