Now that you mention Greys and it's July season and who can forget the infamous Jamaican Music who lost his jockey at the Drill Hall but redeemed himself when winning the July at another attempt.
And then there was Jamaican Rumba trained by a real battling trainer G.M.Thompson who wore the same
brown suit every time he came to the races and must have been given a new one after winning the July.

In the 1990's when I was a teenager, there was a grey filly called Sweet Secret that always should catch my eye. Saw it winning a Clairwood feature with Conrad Wilkinson riding. Sweet Secret won the Natal Oaks and was trained by David Payne. Wilkinson was involved in the horrific fall caused by UK champion jockey Fallon.

Also there was San Carlos a multiple winner trained by Gadsby. Those were the good days of KZN racing that got me hooked.

The best grey in South Africa in the last 20 years must be was

Dancer's Daughter?
National Colour?

Do you remember the White Horse Stakes sponsored by that whisky of the same name? Early 80’s. It was only raced once as the Jockey Club later said the race was discriminatory to the other poor non-greys. Lol.

I'm not sure if it wasnot raced more than once - I backed the winner of one race won by Striker for Stenger at 14-1 in Kzn - It was my Matric holiday either 1986 or 87 and I got 14-1 which got us drunk for days

It was called the White Horse Invitation sponsored by White horse whiskey . I was 10 years old when Miss Averof won it 1989 and followed up the next year again. Im pretty sure it was owned by hilda podlas with the distinctive pink colors. Miss averof also worn pienk blinkers. It was the race that made me fall in love with grey horses. Only Greys were invited to run in the race. It was amazing to watch

The race was run for a few yearsas part of their sponsorship (I think WH sponsored the Dingaans so around December 16 perhaps), I think it was run over 1600m - The one I backed was I think a filly sired by Russian Fox - Russian something I think - It was in either 1986 or 87 December - Russian Fox also threw greys

Went through the archives. It was Russian Fling.

When I took my very own bets by myself was on Mainstay International 1800day in 1991. Miss Averof ran third behind the winner, Olympic Duel and Divine Master.

Couple of years ago, they had a race for greys only in Gauteng. I think Geoff Woodruff had a horse in the race, the aptly named, The White Horse.

Every year in the UK they have a horse race for Greys only.
