PROGRESSIVE THINKING REQUIRED

Most people will agree that the P6 is the tote's premier multi leg exotic bet currently with the biggest pools daily and the highest dividends on most occasions.

It is also the most targeted pool for the open bet, which means that pools could be substantially more attractive than what is on offer daily if players can be persuaded to return to the tote for this, and also other exotics, to the benefit of punters and owners alike.

The P6 is difficult to win and mostly require a large perm and a fractional bet (not to mention a bit of luck) for the ordinary punter to have a realistic chance of winning a substantial but mostly a severely diluted return. The hard luck stories we all have will fill books, not to mention our bank accounts, from years of near misses on an almost impossible bet for the smaller player.

We have seen outcomes from the sublime to the ridiculous with frequent carry overs, single ticket pay outs and then on occasion pay outs that make the PA look more mouth watering. That's gambling and most of us accept this and move on but that doesn't mean that we cannot want or hope for something better.

How much better would it not be if anyone of us can win a full dividend each day on even a modest outlay with quality dividends on offer every single event? On a tough day there will be winners, guaranteed, and on an easy day there will be big winners, almost guaranteed. Our Scoreline product is designed to deliver this outcome with carry overs regularly occurring for rapid pool growth but with the largest portion of the daily pool guaranteed to be paid out using a methodology that will deliver a mouth watering dividend on almost every occasion.

No more near misses, countless unproductive carry overs to who knows where, and small punters being cattle fodder for the bigger players. Everyone suddenly in with an improved chance and a lot more fun rather than rapid elimination which so often is the lot of the average player.

You would think that a product that offered this would be a no brainer as punters would be happy and the operator will reap the benefit of much better supported pools and a much trickier decision for those that support the open bet. This would give the tote, players and the funding of racing an enormous boost and will offer racing an incredible marketing tool with which to build new interest in our sport.

Oddly and sadly I mostly encounter decision makers that continue to look for solutions from what racing has at its disposal, despite years of proof of the ineffective nature of the current range of products to attract widespread new participation.

When will operators become more progressive in their thinking and realise that a truly punter friendly product would be invaluable in making racing more exciting, affordable and rewarding for a much larger audience? Punters are crying out for a better deal, and so is the industry, and rapid growth will only come if participation can be more inspiring and offerings able to promote repeat, regular and long term involvement from a new group of players.

Racing needs new thinkers and strong support for capacity building projects and anything that will promote new interest in the sport.

Are we likely to see this in future?

We are led to believe that we have these people working hard behind the scenes for some radical changes, but their hands are tied due to licensing delays?
Again, I am not in a position to tell you who is currently running the show?
My inputs are that it’s not going well after many months of uncertainty and some basic managerial functions not running smoothly.

Let’s hope for best when we do get some transparency on the way forward.

Looking at todays placed runners and the uninspiring P6 dividend I am relatively certain that Scoreline would have produced at least a 5 figure dividend even with what was a relatively fancied set of outcomes with 5 tote favorites winning.

A bet that would pay quality dividends regularly even under fairly straight forward winning outcomes and with pay outs guaranteed has to be a better option for promotion of the sport and the satisfaction of dream bet supporters.

Similarly with yesterday's long shot results at Scottsville it would have had a few punters smiling as the best players on the day would have reaped the rewards.

Looking after players and rewarding the hard work of form studying is the least that operators should do to make participation more enjoyable and profitable.

Racing can be and should be so much more fun and the tote should be the mechanism to achieve a better outcome for all.
