PRESS RELEASE – VODACOM DURBAN JULY – RACE MEETING 25 JULY 2020

The National Horseracing Authority (NHA) has pleasure in announcing the composition of the Stipendiary Board that will officiate at the Vodacom Durban July Race Meeting, at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Saturday, 25 July 2020.

Deanthan Moodley

Mr Moodley will officiate at his second Vodacom Durban July Race Meeting, with this year’s edition of Southern Africa’s premier Race Meeting being his first as the Chief Stipendiary Steward in KwaZulu-Natal. Deanthan was appointed to this position in November 2019, after having been an integral member of the Central Provinces and Eastern Cape Stipendiary Boards since 2015, after qualifying as an Attorney.

Derk Anderson

Mr Anderson has over 26 years’ experience as a Stipendiary Steward in KwaZulu-Natal, which includes 25 consecutive Vodacom Durban July’s. Derk is a key member of the KwaZulu-Natal Stipendiary Board, in his capacity as Senior Stipendiary Steward.

Timothy Nhlapho

With over 13 years’ experience as a Stipendiary Steward in Cape Town and currently in Durban, Mr Nhlapho’s potential was rewarded when he was selected to spend two weeks in Japan, attending the annual General Study Program in 2018. Timothy has officiated at 11 Vodacom Durban July’s.

Louis Nhlapo

Mr Nhlapo was appointed as a member of the Central Provinces Stipendiary Board in 2015, after a life-time spent in the horseracing industry in various roles. Having commenced a 15 year career as a Groom, while still at school and then as a Work Rider, Louis also enjoyed a highly successful career as a Jockey, which spanned some 15 years. In 2019, Louis attended the annual General Study Program in Japan.

Simon Connaway (Trainee)

Mr Connaway has been a long serving part-time race day employee of The NHA in KwaZulu-Natal. Simon was appointed as a Trainee Stipendiary Steward at the beginning of the year.

Bob, maybe you can put up the finish of the two July races that I believe have different outcomes for what i saw as the same offence;
Wylie Hall / Legislate
Power King / Punta Arenas

Always interesting to understand better why the Stipes make decisions and the basis.

I think they have since stipulated a minimum time to decide on a photo finish. It took forever to announce the winner of El Picha over Young Rake I think it was.

2014 Durban July, if that race was held last week at any track in SA the winner would have held the result easily.

Till today I cannot fathom how the stipes gave the race to the runner up :-(
