Help for owners wanting out

Dear Trainer,

It has come to the attention of the NHA that there are Owners wanting to extract themselves from the financial responsibilities associated with owning certain horses and that this leaves you in a difficult and precarious position.

Please find attached the recommended legal wording which could be used when considering what options there are available, in the best interests of the horse.

Kind regards,

Lets say that the total amount of trainers in SA are currently SHORT R1 million a month in non payments

The R13m could have carried that for 13 months

But maybe I'm wrong

The current shortfall between all trainers in SA is R2m

The R13m could have carried that for 6.5 months

Perhaps im still wrong and the current shortfall experienced by trainers in SA is R4m a month which translates to

500 horses at R8000 each short but if owners are able to pay HALF then its 1000 horses being fed and owners readied

That is what the R13m should have gone too. NOT a document for owners to bail.

An owners group should be supporting OWNERS bering in mind that the nomination money goes there.

come on guys at every angle we (owners and trainers) are being mugged off.

Sit back and work out how far the R13m would have gone spread around trainers in difficulties

Surely you are not saying that we should not race for the R13M provided by RA and that we should rather be subsidized for a few months, with same R13M, which would see our horses stand in their stables?

To be fair, the RA have put that money in to get racing up and going again. And they have made that money available to all Owners, not just to their members which they actually could have done.

If 13m can go left its because there is at least another 13m available to go right.

that means the 26m could have been allocated to loans or some form of assistance to those that need it the most during these trying times.

YOU are one of my trainers and as far as I know we are up to date in payments to you and our other trainers. (there is always a dispute here and there)

So perhaps you don't need a subsidy to carry MY horses but need one for someone else horse during these tough times.

So i reckon the money should have been made available via a different channel.

BUT hey that's my opinion. ( and about another 183 people)

Back to the opening post of this thread. I do not recall having seen a more useless piece of paper in my life.

Whether you sign this piece of paper or a change of Ownership, it is the same thing. It doesnt get the Trainer anything. So, if you can e mail this form, you can e mail a change of Ownership.

What "options" does it give an Owner ? Where are the financial implications ? Are Owners now encouraged just to fill in the form, send it to the Trainer and walk away...? How is this piece of paper " helping Owners or Trainers or Racing?"

This piece of paper is so useless, it doesnt even cover percentage of Ownership nor details of other partners in the horse.

Useful paper to me, is the roll of toilet paper which I keep in my vehicle whilst travelling through Mozambique. Not all toilets en route have toilet paper.

Yes it is a business so they can apply just like other businesses can and are doing. Ofcourse all paperwork needs to be in order and I would think vat and tax must be in reasonable order. They could have even applied to the Ruperts fund.

Please try and apply. And if u can get it through, please help me with same...

I have never ever seen a more confusing process. We have applied for our other business, not our Racing Stable.

It is a joke, I tell you. We have been to and fro for more than a week now. The system doesnt work !

As for Trainers, it does not apply. The fund is only for Salaries and only for the period of the lockdown. You have to apply for the first lockdown and also, separately, for the extended lockdown.

You have to prove that your business is NOT TRADING. You cannot come with a lurk about how bad things are or were before etc.

Trainers are invoicing and are operating through lockdown. Racing has been cleared as an Essential Services Industry. Commission is not relevant, eg share of stakes. Trainer Salaries are from Training fees. So, no, Trainers cannot apply. The fund is not there to collect your debts whilst you are trading.

Hi Louis, yes as a essential service one shouldn't be getting help from them, eventhough you cant operate do to restrictions that is stopping your business from actually operating properly(racing).
What makes it worse is that the spaza shops that were allowed to open after 1 week, they getting funding. The funny part is with me applying for my business which is in lockdown and stuffing me up, some of the forms have in business sector the word spaza shop printed. These people are out there on the street are going to get ahead of me a business who pays vat, paye, income tax, provisional tax all on or before the due date year after year.
You right about the process, the forms, the questions, and getting nowhere. I have applied from the first date, then get sent another fund that I must try, then get a reference number sent and then a whole lot of rubbish questions that I wouldn't take 1000/1 that I will see a cent of help.
I know two other people in the same position. For weeks everyone watches the news and all what they talk about is how the funds are there to help businesses, so they look good that they are looking after us.
I have reached the point where as much as the virus is spreading, people now should have the option of working at their own risk as nobody is there to help when the money eventually runs dry.

Government is only here to help certain people the rest have to fend for themselves , use whatever loophole you can to survive as that is the best you can hope for
