Vaal Tuesday

Since Saturday's abandonment of the Vaal race meeting after receiving 50.5mm of rain, a further 46mm of rain has fallen until today, with the pen reading currently sitting at 30 (heavy). As we are concerned with the forecast of more rains tonight and tomorrow, gallops have been arranged for tomorrow morning at 7am to assess the underfoot conditions and an update will follow.

Following a gallop and track inspection by NHA, Jockeys, trainers and PGL track officials, the meeting at the Vaal today has been abandoned due to unsafe and inconsistent underfoot conditions - a further 5.5mm rain was recorded overnight on top of the 90mm plus recorded over the past couple of days and it is currently raining, with significant further rain forecast through the day.

Unfortunately Cape Town does not have the horse population to support any more race meetings than those already scheduled.
