A MELBOURNE CUP TALE
5 years 7 months ago - 5 years 7 months ago
The story goes like this. My daughters boyfriend told her to open a bet365 account with $200 and she would be given $200 bonus. He told her to put the $200 on Leicester to beat Crystal Palace which duly obliged at what I believe to be even money as she now had a balance of $400. My daughter then told me she had $200 in bet credits which as a non gambler thought she would put the $200 on the Melbourne cup seeing as it is their national heritage to have flutter on the big race.
I got a call this morning from my daughter who’s working in Australia, telling me that she had picked the winner of the race. She had placed $6 on the winner VOW AND DECLARE. Having checked her balance thinking she had won $72 from the bet, she saw that her balance was almost 10k.
Panic mode had set in as she was aware of the objection of Frankies riding of the second placed horse MASTER OF REALITY and that it had been placed 4th.
I told her that they would take the money back from her account, which left her devastated at that time.
I proceeded to look at bet365 rules on a horse been disqualified in a tricast bet and saw that the bet would have corrected itself and would not pay out. Still unsure I saw that there were different rules for Australian racing, which mentioned something about protest promise and that the bet would be honoured on both outcomes if there was a protest and not a disqualification.
I was sure that her bet was good. Her manager had also placed the same bet to smaller stakes but his money had been returned. Having called bet365 customer sevices, he was told that his bet was good and would correct itself in the coming hours.
Upon realising why she had picked out the necessary bet, she informed my that she placed a $2 combination tricast using the 3 numbers relating to the loss of my father, her grandad. The 23 of March (3) and the date he was cremated on the 12th of April of this year.
