Elvis
Muzi picked up the ride when Moodley was allegedly held up in traffic. Muzi drawn 2, Lyle drawn 3....
Quite unnecessary to have forced Lyle that wide, from the start...

Anybody know why Muzi did not ride the 19/10 favourite number 6 Highland Heather out or even tried to give it a run Greyville race 9.
Was my 50 % pick 6 banker.
R70k down the drain for not even giving me a run.

The National Horseracing Authority (NHA) has made it clear there was “nothing sinister” in the fact jockey Lyle Hewitson’s 14-day suspension had been deferred into the new season which began yesterday.
AUGUST 1, 2019
On Wednesday at Greyville, jockey Muzi Yeni, who was the other jockey involved in the chase for the 2018/19 season championship title, commented that Hewitson had received a 14-day suspension in April but “they prolonged it until the end of the season and I thought that was very unfair to me”.
However, NHA Racing Control Executive Arnold Hyde, confirmed on Thursday that any talk of preferential treatment was “way off the mark”.
Comments have been made that in other parts of the world jockeys have to take any suspensions immediately but Hyde points out the rules in South Africa differ from many other countries.
“We do have the admission of guilt option where a jockey can accept his guilty and then will take his suspension immediately. However, if he is not prepared to sign it then we go to an Inquiry and then there is also the right to appeal.
“That full procedure can take some time. We need to get an appeal board together and sometimes that is very tough. We use a panel of independent people which is usually from the legal profession. These are busy guys and it can take quite a while to bring them together to hold the appeal.
“The person who is appealing also has a right to have his lawyer present and he also has to be available.”
It still does not end there as the person charged also has the right to have the appeal reviewed, as was the case with S’manga Khumalo in 2013 when he was accused of failing “to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that Supertube was given a full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible placing”.
The appeal was only heard in 2014 but it resulted their upholding a 60-day suspension. Had Khumalo taken the suspension he would have missed out on winning the 2013/14 jockey championship. He then decided to have the review appealed and that gave him enough time to win the title before the review was heard. It was only settled in 2015.
“No fear, no favour. The rules are applied the same way to all,” added Hyde. “I would take it badly to be accused at any type of favouritism or bias, everybody should be treated equally.”
The NHA also confirmed an Inquiry would be opened into “jockey Muzi Yeni’s comments made in an interview after Race 4 at Greyville Racecourse on 31 July 2019”.
“An independent board will be set up and they will treat the case on its merits and will decide if there has been a contravention of the rules.”
As far as Hewitson’s 14-day suspension is concerned Hyde pointed out that it could travel with him when he goes to Hong Kong. “I have no ideas about his travel plans but if the suspension is upheld it could affect his rides in Hong Kong. We have a mutual agreement with Hong Kong to uphold any bans issued by one another.”

Ultimately based on the current rules in place Muzi doesn't have a leg to stand on however does this mean that the current rules are adequate?
My opinion is that they are not and the drivel that it is difficult to assemble an independent team to hear appeals reads like a kids nursery rhyme. This controversy has certainly raised some pertinent questions:
1. How can an appeal take more than 3 months?
2. If the rule allows for manipulation as it clearly does then is the rule worth having?
3. If there is betting on the outcome and you have rules that can be manipulated to suite then should betting be allowed?
I for one have absolutely no respect or confidence in the way the oversight on racing is conducted. The reliance on a set of rules that in themselves are questionable and are able to be manipulated actually just highlights the irony.

The fact that a jockey works harder and rides more often than another jockey is no good reason that he should be the champion
Just he should be praised for his effort
The fact is that Hewitson rode more winners than Yeni with about 260 less rides
Yeni rode 42 at Flamingo where thr bulk of the opposition are jockeys of a lesser standard
It is much like Cheyne
Riding for Greeff in PE is always going to push you up the table
If Yeni continues to work the same way and behaves himself he could be next years champion
But if rants about a Rainbow again he could find good ride hard to come by
Nobody likes a sore loser

The racing public asks itself the question, how well do the "rules" serve the industry and how well is oversight carried out?
The "rules" ultimately cost Mr Goodman his yard, whilst not being the only contributing factor, it is my opinion that it was the main one. The "rule" on caffeine being detected was followed without regard for or reliance on proper scientific evidence but none the less the "rules" were followed. How did this serve the industry in terms of proper oversight?
There was big splash made about the bloods being taken and tested of the July day runners this year, well done, great job. The unanswered question for me is, should the results form last year stand if all the bloods were stolen? What is the "rule" for this? We have an awesome oversight structure that is able to be dynamic and morph to suit the situation, just make sure your on the right side of the "rule".

my last 2c worth on this topic..... (leaving the "race card" out of it as that is one topic i will not get involved with)...
How he can stand infront of the camera and bitch and moan about the treatment he received compared to Lyle... Louis has pointed out the actual facts, but here is my fact that grinds my nuts....
What he did by trying to pull Lyle off his horse is appauling... He should not have even been allowed to ride in the next race let alone an investigation and a hearing. 2 people spring to mind immediately, Gunter and Bonji. Both of them had a fall and their lives changed instantly. Their careers were shut down and their source of daily income cut off. This is somebodies life that he could have ended all because he wanted to win a title.... Do me a favour....
Where in the world is trying to win some title worth risking somebodies life and families for? I dont care if you white/black/pink or green, that is just not good enough and i would of been the first to applaud if a seriously hefty and immediate ban was given to him.
