Frankie Dettori and Mark Johnston seem to be the in form two to follow! Hannon’s horses love Goodwood so be careful of a outsider or two from them. I’ve been in Newmarket this week. Unbelievable place. Horses look magnificent. Was lucky enough to see A’Ali in flesh. Can’t wait for the big meeting. Go Frankie!

Threat, the juvenile from the Hannon yard is very well thought of and finished close to Arizona at Royal Ascot. He also beat Path of Thunder when winning his maiden (since win two races).

He must rate as a bet this week

Punters are in for a betting bonanza today as TAB will be offering a Pick 6 on today’s Goodwood (UK) race meeting. The Pick 6 will kick off in Race 2, which is scheduled to be run at 15:25.
TAB will also offer a full range of bets on today’s Beverley (UK) race meeting.

There’s a lot of talk about Pinatubo winning. Personally I am not betting in this race because (1) it has more strength in depth than any other races on the day (this is a very good bunch of juveniles) and (2) at 11/8 there is so much that can beat Pinatubo

Pinatubo made it three from three in impressive style from Lope Y Fernandez in the Chesham at Royal Ascot last month. However, that doesn’t mean he has as much in hand over his rivals as you might think in what looks a top-notch running and would enter unknown territory if the ground dried out to good to firm. Godolphin have also had plenty of runners turned over in this race since last winning it in 2007.

Visinari is very highly thought of. Johnston says it’s his best 2yo and his first win was spectacular on the clock. Second time out the stable said it was the distance (6f) that beat him and that he would immediately be stepped up in distance

Pinatubo is the rightful favourite based on that Chesham victory, but I wouldn’t be surprised should runner-up Lope Y Fernandez get a lot closer this time.

He was pretty much the talk of the week at Royal Ascot, so many will have been disappointed to see him beaten just over three lengths by Pinatubo, but that doesn’t take into account what a big ask it is for a horse, even one of Aidan O’Brien’s, to go to that meeting just 15 days after a debut maiden win.

He is clearly high class, should improve again, and if the forecast showers arrive he’s likely to appreciate them more than most. Also, don’t forget that In the Ascot race, Pinatubo was off the bridle before Lope

Clive Cox has said that Positive is the best 2yo he has ever trained. He won his maiden 5l and the horses behind him came out and won next time out. Whatever you do, put this one in your notebook

Mystery Power and Platinum Star are also decent racehorses

This race has a lot of strength is depth and will be a yardstick for the future


Conclusion: Pinatubo Opposable given the quality lined up against him.

Betting wise it’s one of those that I am happy to watch for pure enjoyment

The smart bet will be to take the quartet boxed of Pinatubo, Lope, Positive, Visinari and Mystery Power
