Strawberry tart pills weekend

from left : Ad Altisima | Jonathan | Notquitethereyet

From a Zarbloodstock perspective, we’re getting a quick blitz of action this weekend and it starts with a double-dose tonight at Greyville with Ad Altisima and Jonathan, followed by Notquitethereyet tomorrow at Tuffontein. Here’s the zarbloodstock.com connection..

Ad Altisima

Zarbloodstock assessed & approved for purchase as a Top-2 early action prospect (colts only) off the 2018 TBA R2R sale in November (Check Me Check You is the other one, still unraced but in the noms). More here in Ad Altisima’s multimedia showcase page which is up to date with race replays etc. Now I stand to be corrected but I think he’s in line to be the first winning colt off the sale (Nov. 2018 TBA R2R) and it all goes down this evening in the first race at Greyville, on the polytrack, 1400m. Racetime 17h15.

Jonathan

Winston Chow owned and bred, Jonathan is under Zarbloodstock advisory and we’re trying something different with him. He initially started off in Mike De Kock’s yard in JHB and was well regarded there based on his home performances. He consequently started favourite in his first 2 races and showed nothing.. and then still continued to show nothing for another 2 runs.

At this point he was moved to Kimberley where he wasted no time in bringing his trackwork to the races winning his sand debut by 10 lengths. He then finished 2nd in his next start and with an absence of suitable races out that way for a month, we took the decision to use the time to bounce to KZN for something entirely different.

Greyville poly is all turn with a short straight and no false rail. 5 to 6 lengths covering the entire field from start to finish line is commonplace. Polytrack is the least resistive surface known to racing and this combined with the Greyville track configuration, appears to present the easiest and least testing scenario in the land. Kimberley on the other hand, is on sand at breakneck speed from the jump.. and then there’s the grueling 800m straight to finish the job. This is the american style of racing, true pace all the way and horses dropping out the race on the turn already. At the finishing post fields are strung out and margins can be huge. Kimberley racing tests horses properly, Greyville poly racing doesn’t.

So where does Jonathan fit into this picture? When talking about MR60s horses, he’s a beast on the training tracks and has the ability to win at this level but there are obstacles to overcome. This is an entirely different world to what he knows and he will need to take it all in his stride because there’s no room for hesitation and learning over 1200m on the Greyville poly. He’s carded in the 7th race over 1200m tonight.

Notquitethereyet

A recent Zarbloodstock sale, she got straight to business finishing a thrilling 3rd in her first start for new owner Vinnie Patchappen and covered all her costs (6 weeks since purchase) to date in the process. This will now be the 2nd race of her new career and we wait with great anticipation to see what she does this time. She’s been improving steadily with each start and the hope is that she continues onward. A win will see her purchase price covered with plenty profit to spare, a 2nd will see her training fees covered for the next 3½ months, and a 3rd covers 6 weeks. She’s in a good place from every angle and has acquired professional athlete status because she’s paying her way. She’s performing and she’s getting paid to do it. If she wins (race 2 tomorrow) she will be the first ever to carry Vinnie’s silks into the winner’s box. Full article here zarbloodstock.com
