Life after Cheltenham
6 years 3 months ago - 6 years 3 months ago
Good morning all and we had our highs and lows during the festival, the lows were a bitter pill to swallow, but we move on to the next hurdle in true punting fashion.
I can start with the old classic question “what is the longest race during the Flat season “? The answer is The Grand National.
I am sure many have had a punt on the very popular Tiger Roll and it’s now rather short for a National favourite, but a worthy one.
I have also had a punt on the top weight at massive odds Bristol De Mai and if they both show up on the 6th April I am hoping for another similar clash to the Crisp vs Red Rum classic.
As far as the Flat season all eyes will be on the Dubawi colt Too Darn Hot, (and he certainly is) .
The 2000 gns is on the 4th May and anything above evens should be good enough for the punters to get ahead in the Classics.
There is nothing in the fillies races that stands out and at this stage and the 1000 gns and Oaks are wide open.
Will Too Darn Hot stay the Derby distance? If you think so, there is 6/1 on offer and from the Dam side should be no problem.
As far as local racing I am sure a few of us have gone with MDK at 9/2 for trainers championship, he is a bit shorter now and Hawwaam is the key, the Champions Challenge is on the 4th of May and the 3/1 double with the Gns fav might be the answer?
Was hoping he might also run in July but judging by the betting it has another mission.
One would imagine the Derby would be a formality at a very short price as another option for the champ.
Good Punting

Hi Dave,
De Kock has now announced Hawwaam will run in the Derby and Champions Challenge.
Mike de Kock has announced immediate plans for his star colt Hawwaam (photo) and said on Monday: “I have discussed Hawwaam’s next few races with Angus Gold and Sheikh Hamdan and we have decided to race him in the the Gr1 SA Derby on 30 March, followed five weeks later by the Champions Challenge. Those will possibly be his only races for what is left of this season, though we will enter him for the Durban July and make a call on that after the Champions Challenge."
Barahin is slightly injured and will be aimed at the Durban Season
Soqrat going for Horse Chestnut and Gold Challenge.
Regards,
Jack

Tiger Roll is being compred to the greatest National horse ever, Red Rum ( had a superb record with 3 wins plus many places ).
However the best runner for me was the Australian chaser Crisp in 1973 ( and yes i did have a punt ) i highlighted this race in my opening post.
Note that at the weights Crisp was giving Red Rum 1st 9lbs at the ( yes 10 kilos over 4 miles plus)
Watch the race ( we had no Betfair or in running then )

Bad luck for Godolphin.
The impressive 2 year old Quorto has been injured in training in Dubai and will miss the 2000 Guineas and possibly the Derby.
