Definitely not weather related. Sunny day with moderate wind in PE. Had 2mm of drizzle early morning.

What is amazing when this happens, is where is the track manager. He is employed to ensure track is ready to be used for one purpose, Horse racing. He is at the track 5-7 days a weeks i imagine he has assistants who work with him/her and yet on a regular basis across SA we have track issues. i can only draw two conclusions
1. Track Manager is not competent and should be sent for more training.
2. Phumelela are trying to run the tracks on the cheap and are not funding track maintenance adequate.

not great for the already poor SA RACING reputation/image.

what about the jockeys and trainers and stipes - surely it is in the best interests of jockeys to Nominate one rider to go to track an hour early and walk the course ? What if they had run the first around the bend and nobody bothered to check the condition of the track? The trainer should know if the course is safe to protect the horse and the STIPES have an ABSOLUTE duty to protect horse, rider and punter/owner - Simple but obviously to complicated for these people but as Ive said before a panel should convene way before racing and walk the course and sign off on it - and that should happen at every meeting regardless of weather conditions -
