It looks like Gavin Lerena is fast becoming the Anton Marcus of Gauteng.

He is favourite in every race he rides in tomorrow.

Opportunities abound

If you believe that a winner can

be found in nearly every race why do top jockeys

not have better strike rates
(eliminating allegiance or other such factors)

R2: VARTANIUM (has always been backed in the past so a nice place bet)
R3: BYRON BAY (nice debut so a good place bet)
R7: SAMAR (I have always liked this one so I will place it)

R7 For me there are two bipot inclusions
The first is topweight War Legend a good horse with problems and on best runs would likely be the one to beat
The soft condition will assist
Jagesa Jagesa will be my backup,a nice horse relatively unexposed with no stamina issues and this one too might take to the going

Before we get to the excitement of the LQP meet, we have quite an interesting card put together at the Vaal Classic track - weather permitting .....

R2: Jacko Boy (a filly   ) has the best form in the race, so should prove competitive; Tequila Man second best for me with the debutante Paddy's Legacy who can't be ignored given the support in the market; another first timer Caftan said to need more ground, but still in single figure odds .... ; can't have Vartanium myself

R3: Another open looking Maiden; Blanco has the best current form, but was beaten by both Myrrh and Fact in Nov, so beatable imo; a few others like Ti Gar, Reconnaissance, Byron Bay and Dry Your Eyes also not without chances; Blanco should be good enough for the PA; I'm adding others in the BP

R4: Emerald Bay and Pilgrim's Progress to fight this out; of the others, perhaps Live in Love (rating drop) can feature

R5: This should prove a competitive affair; Tammany Hall with the allowance does look very well in and should get the extra 200m on the way she races, and although she would be my first choice, even Western Dance (blinker strike) can not be ignored

R6: Ready to Strike looks the right one, but too short in the betting imo, I think Cardiff Castle could be a danger - MR dropping and also gets a 4 kg allowance

R7: Interesting contest .... for me I think it lies between Samar and Kings Cup, with Highlander an obvious contender; Bangkok an interesting runner, and could upset them all if not needing the run too much

R8: Ilha da Varlette the obvious one, but would need to settle, so also too short in the betting imo; dangers a plenty, including Nicky Noo and Frankly - only Red Tara (seems to have lost form completely) and Candela look unlikely winners should IdV fails ....

R9: Generous Notion almost pulled off a big upset on the weekend, and from pole position should pose a big threat here; King of the Delta has won over this trip and in the soft, so another obvious contender; I am also including Battle Creek (steadily getting closer and another 2 point drop in the ratings) in the P6

Enjoy B)
