......then again they b!tched about a certain trainer walking on the track.....but if my eyes dont deceive me
there is a rather large marquee on a deck right on the finishing line of the inside grass track.....
....and a picket fence area where many can also walk or stand on the grass outside the marquee....

....seems like the day was a resounding success... ....not being there rather difficult to judge and with the regular back slapping and praising also an iffy barometer....because it is also a very common occurrence even when things generally go pear shaped....the layout and course looked fantastic and all those marquee and function facilities plumb on the grass of the inside track were really well placed aesthetically .....although I hope they can restore that turf in time..... or we will be having more meetings out at the Vaal.....:S

And there was times I'd take my pen
And feel obliged to start again
I do profess
That there are things in life
That one can't quite express
You know me I'm acting dumb-dumb
You know this scene is very humdrum
And my favourite song's entitled 'boredom'
Rip it up and start again
I said rip it up and start again
I said rip it up and rip it up and rip it up and rip it up and rip it up and start again

The day was a resounding success. I was there and it was one of the best race days I have been to. Yes they shoock, things up by having a small stage in the center of the parade ring and a show before the main race but it was all fantastic! It created a vibe and the place was electric. Most rooms and marquees were full and the grandstand and general access walking areas were full too!

The wheel wasn’t an issue for horses and was greatly appreciated by families who brought their kids along. We took 14 irregular racegoers to the event and not one of them had a bad word to say about the day. Well done to the organizers.

So for once can we give the praise where it is due and not look to point out minor faults?

TS18 - Echo your sentiment, as I had a very similar experience.

Probably showing my age .... but I'm not one for all that razzmatazz ..... I do take the point that this is what's needed to get people to the track; however I would argue that it does not necessarily get the 'right people' (those that come for the horses and the racing) to the track - of course there does not seem too many of the 'right people' around these days

I can't speak for all of these 'right people', but what would bring me to the track on regular occasions, is some of the following .... in no particular order ...

MUCH better communication ito of races being delayed .... is it too much to ask for an update every 10 minutes, as it's always been the case of 'let's wait and see' .... and after 30 minutes none of the 'attendees' are any wiser as to what is happening

Good food and drink at fair prices - I don't think anyone minds paying a surcharge, but please just be reasonable; speaking personally, at Turffontein the one establishment that offers this, is Calvins - but as a non-smoker, I have to grin and bear the smell ....

Security that actually works - I have not been to Turffontein once when those detectors did not 'beep' at me, yet nobody cares .... everybody just walks through and smile .... and then those guys manning the parking ..... on Saturday (after really struggling to actually get to a gate - I suppose police presence at a 'big' event is a given these days - if they were just a bit better organized) P parked next to the stands on the way to the stables - luckily I decided to leave straight after the main race (funds depleted :( ) and had to drive up and down the 'isles' just trying to find somewhere to squeeze through to the access road to the main gate .... pretty sure there was quite a balls-up later when people started leaving .....

Being able to take a bet when I want; have to say on Saturday there seemed to be plenty of working tote machines being manned (by people that actually know what a Bi-Pot is) - not sure what the Wi-Fi situation is on track, but imo this should be a given if you want the 'people' to come to the track

So get the 'basics' right and the 'right people' might show up .... let the others go to the circus for their entertainment B)
