I am not doubting he is talented,if the De kock stable decided on him being their number one jock he must be.As you say he could have the best seat and hands in the business but you also need strength in a finish and the ability to read the pace of the race and place your horses in the right position accordingly.

.....no matter how strong riding or urging from the saddle .....that MDK filly would still not find the frame no matter who was on top....she clearly has issues and when one has to resort to ear stuffing and fancy head gear muffing.... the more scrubbing is going to have the complete opposite effect....:S

Not sure what the stable stats are with Simons riding but I would guess a good deal worse than when Delpech was riding for them.
Nothing wrong with Simons imo - not in Gavin's league, but his strike rate is pretty much on par with Hewitson, Khumalo and Srydom and Yeni
I think it boils down to the pressure to perform i.e. ride winners for a big stable. Did Simons not win the Summer Cup on the biggest De Kock roughie, rolling the favourite in the process? If correct, there's a case of no expectations and no pressure. He rode the race as it unfolded.
Now he is under pressure because everyone's watching and to a larger degree, expecting him to arrive on these horses, and the longer it takes to string a run of winners together, the more his confidence will wane. Right now, he is either moving too soon, or too late, or the horses may not be as fit as expected or being aimed at bigger things, and he is feeling and looking bad. He will bounce back.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

I thought the 2nd in the last race would have won with a stronger rider
