Too many trainers in South africa

101 different trainers had at least 1 winner in August 2018. another 43 had runners with no winners.
in a country with so few races and so few horses 144 trainers is too many to make in financially viable for most.
I still see 80-100 trainers as a more realistic number.
the problem if this is not addressed u get weird results becoming the norm. Trainers will take chances to get a winner just to keep the lights on.
also small owners will be milked, false hope being offered just to keep horses in the yard.
Bills not getting paid on time. impacting other industry players
There should be a process managed by NHRA that allows trainers to continue if they can sow they are self sustaining and able to perform in the next 12 months.
if not u go bye bye or merge with another small yard
alternatively INCENTIVES sponsored by Big P or RA to help these smaller yards.

We also seem to have a lack of top class jocks.. There`s riders who struggled to get a ride five years ago lapping it up now

That is why it's best to let the market sort itself out.
When you say there is too many of this or that, the implication could appear that you want to step in and decide for other people, as if you know better. Everyone deserves a chance to try out, and to persist as long as they like. Often we are told the path to success is to keep trying.
