My feeling is nothing will bring people back to track in SA en masse but I found this article interesting none the less

.....while on the subject of bringing people on to the track.....yes that bird has flown....then shot at/ shat on by the PTB
.....now I see a big drive advertised on TT to give away betting vouchers and tablets to get account holders back to the track.....well some of us bought tablets.....so we would not need to go to the track.....betting vouchers may work for those to stand in a queue.....because giving online punters a freebie caused a big online tote malfunction....
.....but all in all....a bit late to now only wake up and start this drive.....let us see if they can lure any interest for racing to survive....:S

I remember when you bought something at OK and when you spend a certain amount of money you got tickets with 5 x numbers on them for the Gold Bowl.

Can't exactly recall how it worked but think correct 5 x numbers won you a car and smaller correct nr's won you TV's, Microwaves and even smaller items like kettles and toasters.

I quite liked that approach and there was lots of interest from the public around the event.

Won't bring people to the track but something similar will inject some interest into the industry, just my opinion.

.....the problem here is that through pure relationship and a form of cannibalism.....the Phum marketing people relied on getting Steinhoff to sponsor the Summer Cup and it was turned into a day out for those connected to Hi Fi Corp(Sansui) .....all of the other uncle in the furniture business associated companies and very little of their customers....other than that they have lost the touch to bring sponsors other than bookie sites and other forms gaming.....can you see any way these okes from racing are able to woo new sponsors to put up promotions like that of the OK back in the day.....I say no way....they have no clue....

Back to the track would be a lot harder than bringing people into racing but if numbers are increased substantially there will be a trickle down into attendance over time.
Making racing more interesting to a brand new market would not be very difficult with the right product approach backed up by an active marketing campaign to introduce these new products.
As long as racing is a side show to operators this will never happen but the opportunity will remain for anyone who actually cares about racing when the time comes.

I think smaller nearby racecourses are required making 500 racegoers look like 5000. Newmarket could have been perfect ?

I have no doubt that if a new operator was to change the setup of the current racetracks and maybe move one or two to more accessible venues (long term planing if that exists in SA horse racing) for all, with 2020's facilities and added attractions then a new market with money to spend would certainly go "to the track".

Also the operator needs to bring in large racing festivals ( 3day meetings) which become annual attractions for fashion etc.

In the digital age the old fashioned 1970s way of doing things and just changing the carpets does not and never will work. The short term returns to shareholders has in many industries and companies come at the expense of long term sustainability. That needs to change first.
