Weather is cool and overcast- we had a few drops of rain last night but not much. Expecting a bit of a tailwind. The going has been posted as good with a pen of 20. After the very wet May/June, July has been dry, but hopefully the sting still out the ground.
Quite a few scratchings, so very few races with 3 places.
Race 1: Tyrian has been priced up at odds- on after a fair debut where he showed good pace over a trip too short. The winner of that race has come out to run a good second. The value lies with the older Photocopy at 7/2 which is overdue his maiden win.
Race 2. Another short priced favourite in Margarethe. Her debut was very good, but she was playing up at the start last time and did not show improvement. She had a couple of lengths in hand in that race over our filly Beautiful Beat. BB has run since and has shown improvement at every start. From a nice draw and with the apprentice claim, I think that we have each way credentials at 8/1. Touch of Green also gets the claimer, and showed good improvement second start so must be respected. There are a few unexposed fillies that could surprise.
Race 3. Ikebana another odds on shot. She has the best form but in a handicap the price is too skinny. If she fails then it is quite open, with the next best being Silk Trip and Gimme Katrina.
Race 4. Forest Prince has useful form, but I prefer Astrapi at 4/1. Royal Marine has poor recent form, but his last win was at this course and he has come down in the ratings- upset material.
Race 5: Another short priced favourite in Blue Roller which has filled second box four times. His main opponent is Carlas Mambo, which ran a good race last time and on breeding should enjoy the extra 200m. The 2 lengths difference flatters the favourite, as CM was eased up late when the jockey could see he was beaten into 3rd, with the 4th horse many lengths back.
Race 6. Suite Francaise was a little disappointing last time when outpaced in the soft going. She should enjoy the step up in trip and is the one to beat, but not a banker for me. Doubled Over and Royal Kiss are the main dangers and Neria is also in with a shout.
Race 7. Green Archer goes for a hat trick, but this race is quite competitive with the main dangers Loadshedder and What a Joker, but there are others with chances.
Race 8. This is the toughest race of the day and just about anything could win. We have Bon Bon running and unfortunately she again gets a wide draw. She needs some luck in the running but is capable on her day, and she is fit and well.
