The National Horseracing Authority regrets to inform you of the unfortunate happenings with regards to the courier services after the Vodacom Durban July.

On Saturday 7 July 2018, sometime after 21h30 the courier service vehicle, which was transporting the post-race equine specimens taken after every race on the day, from Greyville Racecourse, was pulled over on the N2 freeway by an unmarked white VW Golf 7. This unmarked vehicle had a flashing blue light as well as a PA system. The driver assumed that it was a police vehicle and followed their instructions to pull over. The driver was ordered to get out of the courier vehicle and told to lie down on the ground. Three plain-clothed males alighted from the unmarked white vehicle and proceeded to rob the driver of his personal effects, including his wallet and cell phone. The three men also accessed the courier vehicle and removed all the sealed boxes containing the raceday specimens. They then left, leaving the vehicle and driver at the scene. The courier service has opened a criminal case at the Westville Police Station.

On Sunday 8 July 2018 at 11h30, a woman was walking in the Pigeon Valley Nature Reserve in Glenwood, Durban, to visit family members who stayed in the vicinity. On the pathway she found the specimen boxes, which had been forced open, with the specimens still inside. She then noticed that there was information on the boxes which stated “Greyville 7/7/2018”. On her return to the area a few hours later, she saw that the boxes had disappeared.

The courier company is waiting for the case number to be assigned.

....well now...not too cleva.....letting all know that there is a chink in the armor......valuable specimens in the custody of a courier company.....why bother to burn down the lab....when one knows this weak spot.....all one needs to grab the specimens.... is to monitor courier activity at race courses.... :S

The "co-incidence" number must be off the charts that the courier vehicle carrying the samples from the biggest race day is pulled over by "fake cops" to rob the driver and take the samples.

I am not a conspiracy theorist but a doctor of statistics once said to me that when the "co-incidence" number is off the charts there is normally something sweet in Switzerland.

Incredible.

So someone didn't want samples to be tested and paid a pretty sum to ensure this never happened. Let the conspiracy theories begin. Snowdance getting beat would save the bookies millions is the obvious first shot across the bows.....

If you were the investigator in charge of this case, who would be your main suspect(s)?

You don't walk through Pigeon Valley for a shortcut as the entrance and exit are the same. There is the main road (Princess Alice Avenue) and the entrance is a path that veers 90 degrees off it.So the specimens would have been dropped right by the main road on the path leading to the reserve not inside the reserve. And a girl on her own she would know better than walking in the reserve on her own.
Last week, a person walking deep in Pigeon Valley in Glenwood came across a semi-naked woman’s corpse. Her head, nipples, finger and vagina had been removed. A man was arrested for the woman’s murder.

Colonel Thembeka Mbhele confirmed the head and finger had been recovered.
That was in February this year.

It really looks like they where not after the specimens otherwise they would have dispersed of them properly and not on the side of the road. And if they knew what was inside the box why did they force it open?
