Any where i can find a list of race types (South Africa) i can publish?

Was asked this question today .....

Good morning Bob, I trust your well. I hope you don't mind,I would like to ask you some advise please.

I am just trying to make a list of horse races, to understand when the horse is dropping class.

What I would like to know is the different races for example :

1. Maiden Juvenile plate
2. Juvenile Plate
3. Maiden Plate
4. Conditions Plate
5. Handicaps

I am not sure if the above is correct or where I can find a summary for the different races?

Many thanks in advance. This is a great website. I always look at the guys comments for race days.

Regards

I answered like this( i`m not the greatest at explainng stuff)

Good morning and thanks for using the site

1. Maiden Juvenile plate - 2yo race where the runners have yet to win a race
2. Juvenile Plate - 2yo race
3. Maiden Plate - For horses of all ages that have not won a race ( some times Fillies and mares race their own sex) allowances for age and sex apply
4. Conditions Plate - the conditions change from race to race... Weight for age and sex allowances apply, weights are set by the programmers.
5. Handicaps - the class of the race is set by the Merit rating cap.

Example A MR 84 Handicap is a reasonable quality race

The Best runners will be rated nearest to MR 84 and will carry 60kg

If runner 1 is rated Mr84 he carries 60kg
Runner 2 is rated Mr80 he carries 58kg
Runner 8 is rated Mr68 he carries 52kg

Every merit rating is worth 0.5 kg in weight allowance

Now if Runner 8’s next run is in a MR 70 Handicap he will then be making a drop in class

Mayeb the experts can edit my replay and maybe make a list of all race types on this thread

Not sure where one would find an up-to-date list, but nowadays of course we have Maiden Handicaps, Novice Handicaps (and Plates I think), Graduation Handicaps (and Plates), 'Middle' Stakes, Pinnacle Plates

An example imo where those that think up all these different 'classes' are not making it any easier for the layman to understand :(
