Europe's top-rated horse of 2017 Cracksman returned to the track with a bang when he made light work of a quality field in the Group 1 Prix Ganay at Longchamp.

The son of Frankel, whose Champion Stakes victory was one of the highlights of last year's turf season, settled nicely in second behind Cloth Of Star's pacemaker Wren's Day and when asked by Frankie Dettori to close, he put the race to bed in a matter of strides.

Cloth Of Stars, who was more amenable than when last seen finishing third in the Dubai Sheema Classic, was held up by Mickael Barzalona but failed to make any impression on the John Gosden-trained colt.
