Racing should introduce a 'new' corporate mission statement :

AMORAL, ANTIQUATED & PROUDLY SO

Whenever the world moves on racing clings to its antiquated, obsolete and outdated mindset. Maybe its because of the horse (which in itself represents a mode of transport now well over a century out-of-date) that this mindset exists. Some recent examples that spring to mind :

1.) It attracts every snake oil salesman like moths to a flame.
2.) If you have money to blow you are in. No questions asked.
3.) It regards it as OK to offer bets which will return you Nil profit even if you win.
4.) I would not be surprised if one day we discovered that the industry IT is powered by a staff member pedalling away on a static bicycle. That's why it falls over - sometimes he gets tired or needs a comfort break.
5.) The media division has yet to discover High Definition. Watching a replay on Winning Ways on a large screen TV is like watching an item from 70's TV.
6.) Judging from the amount of re-shoeing that goes on our farriers must have the shortest nails in the world.
7.) Only France loads a field slower.
8.) We resist anything and everything that might represent progress : eg Barrier Trials & reform of the whip rule.
9.) We care not one jot about retired racehorses. Simple test : Ask the average owner where the horse that was 'dumped' last year is now.
10.) Yearling Sales are promoted as bizarre investment opportunities.
11.) Anything that actually works for 5 minutes or more is labelled 'world class'.
