Gold Circle Press release Greyville POLY

Peter Morrison (Martin Collins SA) was at Greyville on 16 January 2018 to carry out the quarterly track report and he also met with a few jockeys who had recently raised concerns regarding the “kick-back” and that the Polytrack was too “soft”.
Numerous samples from around the track has been taken for analysis and as we are now in the 3-5 year period the track could be due for a “top-up”.
With the heavy rainfalls we have received, some sort of “leaching” could have taken place and a lot of the binding material of the track could now be sitting on the base pad.
It has been agreed that we turn the track “on its head” i.e. lift all the material off the asphalt base and bring it to the top and re-mix with the power harrow. The lower pad has not been touched since the track was laid. Simultaneously the track will be re-levelled.
“In order to facilitate the maintenance programme of the Poly Track, the racemeeting scheduled at Greyville on 14 February 2018, has been switched to Scottsville” said Raf Sheik, Gold Circle Racing Executive.

this is more about the poor Greyville Turf track than the Poly.

Greyville turf is used less than Clairwood race track these days.

thank goodness they still have PMB race track

What will it take for them to properly curate that eyesore? I remember after the durban july 2016, Andrew Fortune was really furious that a premier race could take place on such a dead field. They have worked on just a stretch and that was it..

And to think we are wrapping up things down in the Cape and taking valuable racing up? ah well

It's never the surface according to the people in charge...this time it's the lightning !! :(

GC and P and ANC seem to use the same playbook to divert accountability...

We have a rare weekend off, no runners. Up the Coast at Zinkwazi (Gods own piece of land).
The storm that hit us earlier, came up the Coast, hit us very hard. It was preceded by gale force winds. Also, PMB has a huge storm right now. We are going to battle to finish some of our track work for next week...

It was that bad that only one of the three jocks that went to walk the track actually set foot on the track
