why do they use crazy codes in race cards?

would it not be easier to use simpler and more descriptive words such as GRADE 1/2/3, Listed, etc to describe races instead of codes such as these ....

"COMP" Or "QPLT" Or "HCHS" Or "CHAM" Or "JULY" Or "GCHA" Or "SMET" Or "MERC" Or "TSOS" Or "CFLY"

"GLOO" Or "DIAD" Or "MAJS" Or "GUIN" Or "DEBU" Or "MWAR" Or "DRHS" Or "POST" Or "ALLM" Or "KBSM" Or "THOT"

"SPEE" Or "K120" Or "K160" Or "TIBS" Or "KZST" Or "RASS" Or "SLIP" Or "IFFH" Or "GMED" Or "UMGH" Or "O104" Or "M101" Or "M102" Or "M104" Or "ETHE" Or "TSGM" Or "ECSP"


by the way these are some of the familiar ones the rest are almost impossible to make sense of...

surely G1, Gr1, Lst, etc would save space....most people have no clue what is ETHE, HCSC, GMED,etc

and for barrier trial the course is GRB the race was run on the GREYVILLE POLYTRACK
