Goodman 1 Jockey Club 0

James Goodman has won his case with costs. Well done Jimbo!

I have perused the judgement and it is damning on the Jockey Club and in particular of one Jonathan Witts-Hewitson. Arrogance came home to roost. Once again the Jockey club comes up short in a court of law and not their kangaroo court.

Clearly a well earned victory for justice and important for all those confronted by these proceedings.
However, while the judgement sets aside the conclusions and fine relating to the proceedings, as they were found to be biased, it does not state innocence or guilt relating to the charges .
So , could there be another enquiry ?

The jockey club was quick to condemn James Goodman when he was found guilty. It went out of its way to publish the findings of the enquiry board. The findings of the jockey club enquiry board made James Goodman look obstructive and they impaired his reputation. Now that the jockey club has lost the court case in Durban, it does not say anything about the loss. There is no apology.

It is believed that legal costs and expenses of the jockey club from the start of the enquiry until the end of the court case would have cost between one and two million Rand. Witts- Hewittson should never ever sit on an enquiry board again. James Goodman had to put his hands in his own pocket to get the decision of the enquiry board set aside but the enquiry board who were paid for their services were able to hide behind the wealth and resources of the jockey club and not worry about being personally responsible for anything.

Will the Racing Calendar of the jockey club for Friday 1 September 2017 report this brilliant win for James Goodman? It should. My guess it will not.
Will the jockey club issue a press release to explain its views of this massive loss and what corrective measures it intends to take? I think not.

What the employees and directors of the jockey club do not appreciate is that the jockey club is the regulator of horse racing in South Africa. They treat it as if it is their own little cabal unanswerable to anyone but themselves. The people in the jockey club do not know that they are administrators who have to account to horse racing. They think they can do as they please and not be answerable to us. Hopefully the James Goodman court case will be a watershed judgement for all in horse racing. Change has started.

We bitch about transparency and rides and to get the game clean then we make a u-turn and praise the trainer of a horse that was found to have a banned substance in his blood for getting his conviction set aside ?

If we want to be morally right please do so on all fronts

Mydada

You have a point. The problem I have is that you are being hypocritical. You are condemning James Goodman without him first having a fair hearing. He did not get one from the jockey club and thats why the conviction was set aside and now you are standing on your high horse and assume he is guilty. Until he is found guilty, he is innocent. If we want to be morally right, we should know our morals and not put on a front.

All the bests,
J

So forgive me if i am right you want us to shame the club for not getting their ducks in a row and praise the trainer for 'allegedly' doping his horse?

the way i see this is the issue of limits has to be revisited, in so far as external contamination is a very real factor and the nhra as do other authorities refuse to allow any defence. the finding in kentucky becomes relevant. nobody wants to allow doping but the levels of substances have to be revisited and provable contamination has to be allowed as a defence. look at the case of the queens horse in the uk . common sense has to prevail
