to Bingo or Not to Bingo

Again a forumite asks why Flamingo Park is open and Vaal sand closed

Week in week out we are reading about poor results etc

Well this is my 2 cents worth.

The surface is very very reliable. The trainers are able to get horses to run many Moore times than trainers in other provinces.

So perhaps the "problem" lies with the stigma attached to Flamingo as well as its lower stakes.

in my opinion had this not become a dumping ground for horses at the end of their careers we would see far more consistent results.

I can say that we have raced "better" horses in Kimberley and they have been far more consistent that the "average" horse sent there.

I firmly believe that if Flamingo stakes were on par with Vaal or Turfies ( generally) we would see a better horse racing there and far far more consistent results.

Most horses n SA work on sand anyway.

So l like Kimberley and will always support it.

well I advised vickie to move the horse to Flamingo for various reasons.

but he has only been there for just over a week and not much is expected today in the sense of backing him to win
but this is a case for sending a horse to Kimberley early enough in his career to hopefully make an impact in Kimberley I believe he had 2 more wins in KZN over the next year. The "gamble" is to obtain greater than 2 in Kimberley.

Lez felt he had another win or 2 in him. He had 2 quick runs and then literally moved to Tienie (lez's blessing) as we replacing him with 2 other horses.

So Tienie has had him for 11 days and he is fit and ready but has done no real work perse'

I have had £100 ew

He is trying and according to Louis Goosen and Lez he should handle the sand very well

As stated above I would rather him winning 5 or 6 in Kimberley than 2 in Kzn

so yes he has a chance but its not clear cut

I can't see how some of these horses win. I can't see how some of these horses are allowed to run in public races, clearly there is no point where we govern ourselves as to the abuse we will allow. Is there any other race track where more horses carry the comment "Faded badly" or "Never showed"?

At random, today in race 3 I spotted trainer S.Miller entered a filly Greek Olive who last raced more than a year ago in 4 races beaten a total of 77 L and by about 40 horses. It ran more than 39 L last today.

The winner was Green Report (50/1) who was last by 27 L last time, and a superb training feat to win at level weights with a merit rating 34 (and also like Greek Olive, "faded badly").

My biggest regret as an owner is that I once sent a beautiful, big filly there and ended up giving her away to God knows who or where. It looks like a center of absentee owners, who like I did, have abdicated responsibility for these creatures to, lets face it, squeeze blood out of a stone.

In every single race: "Never showed-lame", "Not striding out", "Weakened badly", "Respiratory noise", "Never dangerous", etc.

We are not doing right by these horses - they can't deserve this. I will not be supporting this venue in any way until there is some protection for horses like:
7yo mare Duchess Catherine (beaten 167 lengths in races 65 to 74),
Warai (beaten 77L in 3 runs) and 31 L today,
Fortysecond Street (77L in last 4 runs) and 15L today,
Dr Finley (92L in runs 30 to 36) and 24L today
etc etc etc
etc etc
etc

I have to concur with easy. I reckon it is a great track and the problem is there are too many no hopers at the centre. The issue is people should send track suited horses there. For example look at splashy who won the fourth today. She had three starts for geoff woodruff who was adamant her sand work was far superior to what she showed on raceday and agreed with the view she would do much better in Kimberley. Her full sister chennai babe won once on grass amd after being sent to greyville by sean tarry won 5 out of six om the poly so there was a pointer . With the loss if the vaal sand Kimberley is a real option for proper sand horses as opposed to last chance saloon battlers. On that note the examples cited above make one wonder who on earth would persevere with such horses and why the owners accept such performances.

why on earth are owners FEEDING these horse's monthly with shocking form 30L, 40 L behind - unless of course the trainer has a share in the horse in which case the horse may run for ever and a day !
