Race 2 - Offhand between these two TORREY PINES ch.f 3y 2014 GEORGINA b.f 4y 2013, with GEORGINA b.f 4y 2013 my pick, but this race introduces a thread that recurrs at this meeting - "how good is the form behind Edith Rose" ? If that line is any good then ROY'S MARLIN b.f 3y 2014 could be dangerous here - should keep an eye on the market for any support on that one

Race 3 continues the thread with WHITE WINTER ch.f 3y 2014 and THE VINTAGE b.f 3y 2014, which two I couldn't seperate. Given that WHITE WINTER ch.f 3y 2014 is priced up early favourite, suggests the form line might be worthy of consideration - taking me back to ROY'S MARLIN b.f 3y 2014 in the previous. When I cannot seperate two horses, usually go with the higher value

Race 4: HIGHWAY EXPLORER (AUS) b.g 6y 2011 looks the one to beat , with WALTZED HOME ch.g 6y 2010 in the shake up. much expected of SCENT OF THE TIGER b.g 4y 2013, should be right there along with MISS VARLICIOUS b.m 6y 2011

Race 5 : Hard to comment on HARD TO PLAY b.c 3y 2014 out of a race card, from turf to poly no guarantee's , that one and YANKEEDOODLEDANDY b.g 4y 2013 in my book have to beat FIRE THE ROCKET b.g 6y 2010 and ROY'S AMBASSADOR (AUS) br.g 6y 2010 should be in the shake up. For value I would be with FIRE THE ROCKET b.g 6y 2010 - unless there is no market support.

Race 6 : GUNSHIP b.f 4y 2013 and JE SUIS SILVER b.f 4y 2013 will have to pull out all the stops to try and beat HASHTAG STRAT b.f 4y 2013, I kinda like the look of GUNSHIP b.f 4y 2013, but cannot really seperate her from JE SUIS SILVER b.f 4y

Race 7: I fancy VARGRAVES b.f 3y 2014 to step up the game here, with one eye on VAR AGTIG b.f 4y 2013 , if not then KEPT SECRET b.m 6y 2010 and QUINTELLA b.m 9y 2008 will come into play.

Race 8 : Very interested in DOM SEGUIDOR ch.g 4y 2013 here or else revert to NIGHT LOCK b.g 6y 2010 with a serious challenge from THE MONEY MAN b.g 5y 2012

Torrey Pines must go close in race 2. The horse that beat her, Tsessebe, is a talented sort who came 3rd in a grade 2. As long as either of the well-supported debutantes aren't too smart, she should make the necessary improvement.

Elvis and myself have Airtaxi in the 5th - can't be confident after his last effort, but he had his excuses that day and we are hoping for an improved run - drawn wide so needs to jump, but imo not that big a worry on the Poly and really is taking on a field that looks mediocre - exception of course is Hard to Play who could be anything and the stable mate Sky High Flyer who could still improve ... let's take a look at the opposition ..

#2: Var du Bois - has bled before - so who knows ?

#3: Yankeedoodledandy - could not win with Marcus up and finished well back in his only effort with blinkers

#4: Fire the Rocket - 5 time winner but last win was 509 days ago - has come down in the ratings and imo one that should challenge

#5: Peter Piper - another 5 time winner, but last win was 532 days ago - fair last run when running on over 1400 and with Delpech riding, must be a challenger

#6: Roy's Taxi - needs 1400 imo

#7: Hard to Play - won his first start without any betting support - needs to reproduce on the surface

#8: Sky High Flyer - comes off a 5 month break and should need this run - rating has come down significantly though, so place chance imo

#9: Strummer - suited to this track and trip and should feature from a nice draw

#11: Roy's Donkey - seems to prefer the grass and badly off form

#12: Kolinsky - long rest - surely not

#13: Black Jaguar - very moderate - more than 1,000 days since last win and better over further

So time to put up or shut up
