Another day in Africa !!!
7 years 11 months ago
I am aware this is a sporting site, so let me start my story by saying after my morning running about I switched on tellytrack to watch a strong tip I was given over the July weekend romping home with not a cent of my money on!!!
I was given a notice in my po box to inform me my driving licence was due to expire in a couple of weeks
I went to Centurion last night to get the necessary forms to complete to be informed I would have to come back at 6 this morning as they only issue a certain number of forms per day.
It also requests pictures and I noticed that the normal facilities were not in the car park?
On leaving last night I found a few people advertising photos and stopped to have them taken.
I enquired why they had moved? to be informed that "anything Zuma can do to make people's lives more difficult was done by removing us from the premises "
However I had to do the legal thing and get the license.
I set off at 5.30 to arrive at 6.00 and was surprised to see many people there but the facility was closed and was informed "they were Broken into last night and the computers were stolen"
I was told Akasia would be best, I punched maps to establish that this was in Pretoria North, note Centurion is in the South
I arrived to find an estimated 700 people of which 200 in the front were being issued forms and the balance told to come back another day.
Not to be broken I went via Waltloo a driving centre ( not sure if they do renewals )?
The congestion was heavy so I headed to the outskirts of Pretoria to a place on the way to Bronkerspruit called Rayton.
On arrival I was met with a closed gate and the staff on strike dancing in the street.
To our overseas visitors this might sound mind boggling but in general to do things correctly in Africa is very very difficult and I would guess that is why so much illegal practices are in place.
I would also like to say that at my last stop there was a luxury car parked with number plates "illegal " I should have taken a photo as this is not a funny addition, this is cross my heart , true.
As we say "another day in Africa "
I am sure next time I get stopped with an expired licence I will get a heavy fine or bribe?
Ps send me a PM where I can get one back door

Try the Bedfordview branch. Not a long wait there. Seems efficient
But it's a drive from Pretoria....
