Paul Gadsby - The trainers have had enough!

Remember the groom incident ?

Background- Groom washing down a horse loooses the rag, boots a horse and the footage is captured and shown all over the internet.

Not being hot headed and wanting to follow employer protocols Paul held an enquiry and got SEESA involved. Rightly or wrongly the groom was giving a final warning and the matter was dealt with.

Now I'm just hearing that PG has been convicted and fined 40k by the NHRA and being held responsible for the grooms actions and his fellow trainers are going mental !

More can be added when I find out more

Following the incident of a groom appearing to kick a horse in the stomach in the wash down area at Greyville racecourse on Friday, 13 January 2017, the groom, who is in the employ of KZN trainer Paul Gadsby, attended an inquiry into the incident on Tuesday, 31 January 2017.

The inquiry, conducted by SEESA, and which ran for over an hour, resulted in the groom in question (whose name we have been asked to keep private) being found guilty and issued with a final written warning, which will remain active until 31 January 2018.

Speaking to the Sporting Post, Paul Gadsby confirmed that it had been a long and thorough enquiry. “I do think he understood the gravity of the matter and he has apologised a number of times – both directly to me before the inquiry – as well as during the inquiry itself. I do feel he is genuinely remorseful and I feel that the outcome was fair, under the circumstances.”

PG and the Trainers should really challenge this if it is true.

The NHA should have then held an enquiry with the groom and taken action, not the trainer. The groom cannot be seen as a horse in that the trainer must take responsibility for or are the NHA implying that PG approves of this behaviour?

The NHRA have nothing in their constitution that allows for this.

I think that they are clearly more interested in the R40000 than anything else.

Perhaps Buffalo Bill and his apparently independent bunch should take this up on behalf of trainer Gadsby.

The NHRA would appear to make some knee jerk and shooting from the hip calls these days ?

Were always above reproach and would stick to the rule book in the old days .

I think it started with the Azzie objection and just slowly deteriorated

How can anyone using just plain common sense come to the conclusion that the trainer is liable for a 40k fine because his employee did something stupid?

It really is comical how quickly things are declining in this game now.

I am not sure but if I recall the incident was only brought to the attention of the NHRA because it was televised...on numerous occasions trainers have on Television said that the "horse is going for a prep and is only 80% fit"(against the NHRA rules) etc When I asked a stipe about this he said "we don't watch Teletrack" So double standards

In any business you are responsible for your employees actions. Because he the groom was at fault, Mr Gadsby can claim back the money from him.

Obviously the groom cannot afford to pay that, even if its monthly it will take years. Not so clued up with the laws but it will fall under some liability policy taken out by the employer to cover that. For example Public Liability but NOT in this case I am just highlighting my point.
