USELESS PRAWN FESTIVAL MARKETING IN NEWSPAPER
8 years 3 months ago
I intend going racing at Turffontein on Saturday. My wife & I might take 3 or 4 newcomers with us, who have never been to horse racing EVER. My mate is self employed & pretty bucks upped - & who knows, if he gets the BUG we might get him involved in horse ownership - you never know. He's had a few punts on my horses in the past... HE ACTUALLY PHONED ME ABOUT THE PRAWN FESTIVAL !
Now the MONDAY CITIZEN newspaper has A FULL PAGE SPREAD about the prawn festival.
It says entrance fee to the course is SEPARATE from the Prawn festival fee.
F.F.S. why don't they PUBLISH IN THE PAPER - WHAT THE COURSE ENTRANCE FEE IS & WHAT THE PRAWN FESTIVAL FEE IS ??
I think I have seen form the T.V. that the prawns cost R 199.00 P.P.
BUT NO, "they "P " marketing people prefer that one now goes to a website to enquire what the relevant prices are.
The mind boggles !! such a careless mistake.

Went on to Webticket - That's what the advert says I must do
The Joburg Prawn Festival
It’s that time of the year again! The new and improved Joburg Prawn Festival takes place at Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday, 4 March and promises to be a great day out for the whole family. Sink your teeth into delicious prawns. Only R199 for 1kg, sauce, rice and chips. Take in the excitement of a day at the races as the Triple Crown springs to life. Live music and kid’s entertainment will ensure that the good times keep rolling throughout the afternoon.
For more information call 011 681 1796 or visit www.itsarush.co.za
So then go to Its a Rush See R30 for Adults R10 for Children .
Mind boggling - surprised after all this time looking I have not just given up and booked at Ocean Basket .
I still don't understand what the reason is for charging an entrance fee . Does the money go to Charity ? Is it to keep it an elite affair ? Who knows

I think charging an entrance fee has twofold value(not that I agree with it) - firstly IF(BIG IF) - patrons book online the operators have an idea of how many people to expect which will help prevent the disaster of last year when Social Media was flooded with the worst reviews I've ever seen of a racemeeting (all by the general public... many swearing never to set foot here again)
The second string to the bow are the betting vouchers that form part of the entrance fees that will be used to punt and that will increase turnover as I doubt most people will only have a R10 bet...
I'm not sure how the booking process works but I suspect you will have to enter a valid email to receive your tickets or conformation thereof (if this is not the case then an opportunity missed). That will create a proper database of potential clients that can be marketed to for future events.. Emails cost nothing whereas SMS's do and you can add way more bling and fluff to an email than an sms.

MrH , where do you see anything about "betting vouchers " in conjunction with the entrance fee of R 30.00 ? I don't see anything OR is this your suggestion ?

I might be wrong
But they had some problems with people just turning up and buy take out prawns in past festivals, so I think the extra cost might have been to try and ease congestion etc ? Might be wrong as I said
