Hong Kong-based jockey Douglas Whyte was handed a one-month suspension for failing to ride out his mount Scales of Justice to the line in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic.

Despite the support of Scales of Justice's trainer Lindsey Smith, and managing owner Chris Wells, the South African superstar was handed the heavy sanction on Friday (Perth time), six days after the race won narrowly by Stratum Star.

Whyte is free to ride at Sunday's LONGINES Hong Kong International race meeting, with the penalty set to begin on December 18.

The 45-year-old has been advised of his rights of appeal.

Whyte has 13 jockeys' titles to his name in Hong Kong.
