TRAINERS FINED

Two trainers have just been fined for traces of Bute & Testosterone in old syringes but for the life of me I cannot understand why the Trainer has been fined.

If there is a Vets book which shows when the injections were administered and the Vet did not dispose of the used needles then surely the Vet should be fined and reported to the Vets national body? Surely leaving used syringes at the scene of administration is not the Vets professional protocol?

Neigh, i agree with you but why would anyone HAVE to read between the lines? Surely there are protocols and if the Trainers names are revealed then so should the Vets names that administered the drugs be revealed?

Its a situation that has been brought about by rumour's, mistrust, lack of communication, lack of "clout", lack of clear rules and guidelines, lack of enforcing these rules, double standards, list goes on. Which cases are prosecuted and which are swept under the mat ?? Who will ever know ? Protocols ??

A failure to act against the Vets in this case would be wrong on many levels and would also insinuate that the Trainers administered the injections. If the trainers did not administer the injections then the Vets did and left the used syringes behind without disposing of them properly as medical waste which they are professionally obligated to do. This should then be reported to the Medical Control Council as there are laws that govern the disposal of any medicine and more importantly a scheduled medicine.

Bute has been banned for over a year

Bob, whether the substances were banned or not a Vet would have had to administer the injection and be obligated to dispose of the syringe containing traces of the drug as medical waste. The Vet would also have to have a record of this and be answerable for disposing of the medical waste.

Doesn't matter who it belonged to a Vet would have had to administer the drug, have record of such & have disposed of the syringe or there are further implications.........or anyone can simply give a version and that is accepted without proper scrutinization of the protocols.
