Two Women Barred From UK Racecourses

TWO TV stars have been banned from British racecourses for life after exposing themselves at this year's Cheltenham Festival.

Jessica Hayes and Katie Salmon, who have starred in ITV2 show Love Island, exposed their breasts to photographers from the balcony of a VIP box at the meeting.

Hayes, 23, won Love Island in 2015 while Salmon, 20, made the final of this year's series. The two women received a letter from the BHA disciplinary officer Patrick Russell, which stated their behaviour had been: "Unacceptable, offensive and detrimental to the good reputation of the sport."

It added the pair had not shown any remorse for their actions, and that: "It is appropriate for the protection of racing that a strong message is sent that anti-social behaviour of this kind at racecourses will be firmly dealt with."

Footballers also banned

Two professional footballers, MK Dons midfielder Samir Carruthers and Crawley's striker James Collins - who was on-loan at Northampton from Shrewsbury at the time - were in the same box and were photographed urinating into a glass and then pouring the contents from the balcony.

The pair publicly apologised after their actions but have still been banned for their behaviour, although Collins can appeal to have the ban lifted after two years and Carruthers after a year.

Carruthers, 23, was suspended by his club at the time and fined two weeks' wages, while Collins, 25, who was pictured pouring the contents of the glass from the balcony, was also fined two weeks' salary.

Explaining the reason for the BHA's tough stance, spokeswoman Rosie Margarson said: "The British Horseracing Authority is responsible for protecting the proper conduct and good reputation of horseracing in this country.

"As a result of their behaviour at Cheltenham racecourse, the BHA applied to its disciplinary officer to have Katie Salmon, Jessica Hayes, Samir Carruthers and James Collins excluded from all licensed premises, including all racecourses in Great Britain.

"The disciplinary officer was satisfied on the evidence put before him that all individuals should be excluded from the sport."

Such antics from Hayes and Salmon are not uncommon. They were again photographed flashing days after the Cheltenham incident, this time at a nightclub.

While appeals against their bans can be lodged after three years, Salmon did not appear too perturbed, as she tweeted yesterday: "Who wants to go to the races anyway."
