UK & France Monday
8 years 9 months ago
Can't get excited about Brighton and Carlisle this afternoon, so am having a dabble across the Channel.
R5 Clairefontaine Alforrocho E/W. This is a very open handicap, but the selection is well placed off bottom weight, has a nice draw and a very capable jockey. Is consistent and ran really well in a stronger race at Deauville last time despite finding 3000m a bit too far. The return to 2400 today looks ideal and can make the first four at least at a very generous 14/1 (Betfred/Totesport) - will be a lot shorter on the French PMU.

Something clearly amiss with Navarone, Bob. Travelled like the winner, then stopped dead - could hardly lift a leg in the final furlong.

The UK racing this evening is a bit more interesting.
R5 Thirsk Fruit Salad E/W. Is well drawn and won't mind the soft ground. Can go well at 8/1 or bigger in an open race.
R7 Thirsk Mango Chutney E/W. Likes this course and distance and comes here in top form. Should handle the ground (acts well on fibresand) and can make the frame at least in a weak race. 8/1 or bigger is fair E/W value.
