Rising to the Challenge......
9 years 9 months ago
The CEO of the Rising Sun group of newspapers Mr. Vijay Maharaj will be rising to the challenge and making the trip from the Lenasia offices of the company down to Durban around the 19th of this month.
So what is newsworthy of this er.. 750 km drive ? Will it be the red Ferrari that Vijay drives that will be burning up the tarmac and incurring a few speeding fines on the way?

As time draws closer to the historic 14-day Gandhi Peace Walk hosted by the Rising Sun Community Newspapers in conjunction with the Gandhi Development Trust, it is vital that the community and interested persons are made aware of who will be participating in this charitable initiative.
The current participants, who will walk the full 750km, are as follows: the CEO of the Rising Sun Community Newspapers, Mr Vijay Maharaj, Ishara Dhanraj, Mogie, Sage Govender, Mohan Hira, Sylvie Naidoo, Javie Ravjee, Amina Bhana, Bashir Bagas and Shauneze Khan.
It is safe to say that these peace-loving and motivated individuals are impressively hard at work, preparing for the walk, which will start at the Rising Sun Lenasia office in Johannesburg on September 19, 2015 and grandly conclude at the Mahatma Gandhi Informal Settlement in Inanda, Durban, on October 2, 2015, which also happens to be Gandhi’s remembrance birthday. By participating in the long walk, these men and women are promoting peace and non-violence while also spreading national unity in the country.
In light of the upcoming event, the participants together with the Gandhi Development Trust are encouraging organisations, businesses and members of the public to show their support and help make a positive difference in communities.
CEO of the Rising Sun Community Newspapers, Mr Vijay Maharaj said, “It is important to note that all funds accumulated will go towards the Gandhi Development Trust, which is definitely a remarkable organisation that is brilliantly keeping Gandhi’s legacy well alive. We encourage residents to the fullest to join us for at least 5kms as we enter and leave their respective towns. Peace apostle, Mahatma Gandhi often said that we must be the change we wish to see in the world and this is a way we can do just that. Gandhi’s profound spirituality and belief in justice inspired the world and we should honour him for this.”
Do not forget that you can also support this event by sponsoring a leg of the race. Residents can sponsor R10 per kilometre as well. Remember, that an event of this magnitude does not come by often and it is certain that we will require the support of the public in order to make this initiative a successful one.
