Appalling ride earns Jock big ban
9 years 10 months ago
RIDER David Fitzpatrick received a 21-day ban at Naas on Monday following what he confessed was an 'appalling' ride on Roryslittlesister, who finished eighth of 12 in the 5f apprentice handicap.
The filly's trainer, Shane Duffy, was equally scathing in his assessment and said he was "disgusted" with the ride.
Roryslittlesister, who shed her maiden tag at Cork in April but had been down the field on her previous two starts and was sent off at 25-1, was held up a distant last and beaten around five lengths despite making late ground.
Stewards inquired into the running and riding of Roryslittlesister and found Fitzpatrick to be in breach of rule 212, failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain his best possible placing, and banned him accordingly.
Fitzpatrick admitted to dropping her out too far and getting the pace of the race wrong, telling the stewards that it was an appalling bit of riding.
The Racing Post's in-running comments read: "Soon detached in rear, still plenty to do approaching final furlong, kept on well inside final furlong under hands and heels, never nearer."
In addition to the three-week ban, Fitzpatrick, who has ridden one winner from 28 rides, must also attend the Racing Academy and Centre of Education (RACE) for at least one day to improve his race-riding knowledge.

While I have not ridden a race horse personally I think we need these kinda rules implemented here.
