Slowest Vaal Sand Track Ever - 23 July'15 ???

I have just calculated the course variation for yesterdays Vaal Sand race-meeting and came to a figure of minus 3 seconds per 1000 meters making it the slowest track for this year and I believe the slowest ever recorded.

Race 1 was omitted from this calculation ( as usual ) because it invariably runs faster than the remainder of the race-meeting, (previously explained/verified on ABC).

Challenging...as ever !

Thanks Malcom, needs to be worked on solid for a good few months

You need a good draw and speed which has always been a case

But one thing I notice lately it's virtually impossible to win running up the inside of a horse, the inside looks a big disadvantage the last 600 m or so ?

I'm not so sure that I agree - in the previous meeting they were winning down the inside - at least down the straight over 1000 - in fact it was one of the reasons I thought that Usisi might be vulnerable yesterday being drawn 10

And imo a slow track is not necessarily a bad thing - some horses will prefer it, others won't - just the same with running on a super fast and hard turf track in the Joh'burg winter - or in the mud in Cape Town - what we don't need is horses slipping etc.

Frodo might just be my eyes, but every well positioned , well drawn horse I punt seems to get lost at sea if they stick to the inside ( after turning into the straight )

Frodo, I think the critical thing is your statement that "some horses will prefer it - others won't".......but to call both situations "standard" gives the punter no chance at all , as I am sure the reason for the inconsistency on sand is more about the inconsistency of the surface rather than the horse!
