......and punters get the blame for the open bet ??????
People who care about horseracing need to wipe the sh!t out their eyes when assessing what "P" are really all about-they care little for local racing -that was told to me a long time ago by somebody sitting on their EXCO and their ongoing strategy would tend to confirm that!
Can anyone advise. He did mention it was for R1.50.
My question.... is it possible to do a R1.50 bet.
i always thought the minimum outlay was R6.00.
Maybe he won a quarter ?

PHUMELELA PRESS RELEASE
02 MARCH 2015
ONE VERY HAPPY SOCCER PUNTER WINS OVER R700 000 FOR JUST R1, 50!
A South African soccer punter has won R742, 501.50 for a R1.50 bet he took on Sunday's Soccer 13. The winning combination was 1/1/3/2/1/3/3/1/2/3/3/1/2 and 8 punters managed to predict all 13 results.
The dividend for tickets with 13 correct predictions was R736, 126. The unit amount for the Soccer 13 is R1, 50 and one particular winning punter only outlaid R1, 50 meaning he landed an incredible straight-line bet.
This punter successfully predicted Chelsea to beat Spurs in the Capital One Cup, Arsenal to beat Everton at home, Athletic Bilbao to beat Eibar away, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid to draw, Cesina to beat Udinese at home, Fiorentina to beat Inter Milan away, Lazio to beat Sassuloa away, Torino to beat Napoli at home, Palermo to draw with Empoli, Ajax Amsterdam to beat PSV Endhoven away, Vfl Wolfsburg to beat Werder Bremen away, Montpellier to beat Nice at home and Monaco and Paris Saint Germaine to draw.
The Sunday and Weekday Soccer 13 bets allocate 40% of the pool to those tickets that have 13 correct predictions, 23% of the pool to those tickets with 12 correct predictions, 12% for 11 correct and 25% for tickets with ten correct predictions.
This means that the lucky punter also collected a dividend of R6, 078.00 for twelve correct predictions, R235.50 for eleven correct and R61.50 for ten correct predictions.
Therefore his total winnings were R742, 501.50.
The average dividend for 13 correct predictions on the Sunday and Weekend Soccer 13’s is R507, 311.
The Saturday Soccer 13 has average pools of R20 million and the average dividend for 13 correct is R1, 98 million.

Must admit that I enjoy both the topic and comments posted here.
It's easy to be critical of Phumelela as there has been so many PR disasters that could have been avoided by more astute responses and common sense.
If one considers that they are a listed company with a clear mandate then they have to be congratulated for fulfilling their primary purpose which is to be profitable and to provide a good return to shareholders. They have done many good things from both a business and racing perspective although the racing purist would probably not agree.
Rationalising the number of courses was very necessary to raise capital for improvements to the remaining one's and to cut overheads to more manageable levels. They have certainly bought racing time with hard but solid business decisions which were always going to attract criticism and comments from the previous regime.
The remaining facilities have been upgraded to a standard that most objective people would find acceptable and in fact even good and they have diversified the business successfully to provide subsidies to local racing which is slowly fading into obscurity and has been for the last twenty to thirty years, certainly from before Phumelela's involvement.Distribution has also been improved considerably and there has been some effort to provide product expansion.
I would not be objective without pointing out their failings and there are a few.Marketing is done predominantly internally to the existing customer base and externally almost exclusively on only a few big annual race days which will never provide the continuity needed to make a real difference.
Racing marketing budgets are very limited and does not really allow for above the line advertising which restricts what can be done to campaigns like "Racing, It's a Rush". It is a bit like fighting for the heavy weight title against a string of top contenders with one hand tied behind your back. You are never going to win the fight even if you put up a good show.
There are also too many employees with fragile ego's and a degree of arrogance that will always stand in the way of finding solutions as discrediting new ideas seems to be more important than finding ways to make them work.
On-line is also not getting the attention that it deserves as it will be much easier to reach out to a younger market through improved technology and more exciting platforms that will facilitate new, more innovative and creative offerings.
So back to the question, what is the strategy.
Local racing is not a priority outside of maintaining it for broadcasting revenue purposes and to appease the local player. Diversified operations will continue to receive preference as it is much more profitable than local racing and which in the absence of racing customer growth will continue to outperform.
Much as I like to criticise the local operator they actually have to be applauded for a good job under trying circumstances.
Could local racing be improved and could it become a profitable contributor again? Absolutely, but give it a proper budget, get rid of the bad apples and put measurable targets in place to ensure tangible results.
Given that racing as a product is available 24/7/364 it is astounding that it doesn't get the attention it deserves as it could be the gem in the crown again if properly managed.

The problem ,LSU, is that if you are correct ,"P" are not being honest in their advertised mission statement!
Whilst I agree that they have shown some intent at effective management, the execution falls woefully short at times!
............and it still does not explain the reason that big soccer winners get extended coverage on Tellytrack and Big horse (normally Pick 6) winners ,very little! The obvious message being conveyed is ,"if you are looking for a life changing win, bet on soccer" (rather than the horses?)
Another example of dubious motive, was that recent huge pick 6 payout where the winning tote ticket got ignored, but the "hard done by" punter suffering the effect of open bet limits got flown to Jhb for a live interview!

I agree with Rob, racing is not nearly as visible as the rest of the product range when it comes to advertising and publicity.
If I wanted to be cynical and play devil's advocate we could ask: Is this a longer term exit strategy?
But lets not be, as the fact that co-mingling from overseas into our pools are being pursued shows intent to keep the product alive and make it more attractive.
Lets give them some credit but we should never stop raising concerns.

The soccer 6 is R6 a unit.the soccer 13 appears to vary between R1.50 and R2.00 depending on the exchange rate, as it is a co-mingled pool!
