Glen Hatt hangs up his saddle

He has decided to retire from the saddle because there is
almost no cartilage in his hand and almost no movement
even after an operation to fix the problem.

I will not win Immediately but Definitely.

Jack Milner: Watching Futura win the J&B Met on Saturday must have been a bittersweet moment for jockey Glen Hatt. On the one hand, he was thrilled to see the horse he called “the best I’ve ever ridden” cruise to victory in the R2.5-million Grade 1 race but, on the other hand, the odds are he will never be able to ride the son of Dynasty again.
February 2, 2015
After surgery failed to sort out the problem in his right hand Hatt has been forced to accept the time for retirement has arrived. “I had an operation on my hand just after the Durban season ended but they have not been able to sort it out,” he said on Saturday.
“There is almost no more cartilage in my hand and there is almost no movement.”
Hatt was born in Cape Town on 12 June 1964 and came through the Jockey Academy at the same time as Piere Strydom and Robbie Fradd. He rode his first winner at Scottsville on Ombarium for trainer Vaughan Marshall and he has gone on to ride almost 2,400 more. He has won about 30 Grade 1 races and has won almost every major feature in the country.
Sadly, the one race he has not been able to win is the Vodacom Durban July. He came very close on Futura last year and was considered unlucky in many quarters.
Hatt has not decided what he will do from now on but there is one memory he will always cherish – that of his last ride. It was in last year’s Grade 1 Champions Cup at Greyville which he won – aboard Futura.

Maybe he goes and teach/mentors at the Academy and we get stacks of more top class riders.. With that said it is sad when the old guard changes over.. but it brings on fresher and younger blood that are eager for Wins and Victory.
Best of Luck to Mr Hatt

Was one of the best jockeys around and one of my favorites. My earliest memory of Glen Hatt was in 1995 when I was Standard 9 and backed him to win the Gold Cup on Milleverof at any price for David Payne. Fond memories.

Uhm I dont know if you going by the article of Jack Milner cos according to Formgrids his last mount was Gulf Storm in the Umgeni Handicap. Maybe, poor journalism.
