They have little or no interest these days in laying large bets on horse racing, especially if it's not UK or Irish horse racing. They used to be one of the very best bookmakers for horse racing no matter where it was taking place (good odds, great range of markets), but those days are long gone. Now they prefer to make their money from FOBTs (should be banned in the opinion of many) in their shops and from football betting, their casino and their (in my view utterly pathetic) betting exchange online. It's hard to know exactly why they seem to have lost interest in horse racing, but it's likely that it either wasn't proving profitable for them or was proving to be much less profitable than certain other areas of their business. This would fit in with what I've seen posted on a number of different fora, namely that they suddenly started 'zeroing' winning horse racing punters' online accounts from 2011/12 onwards.

i think if bookies dont want to lay a horse they should cut the price and force punters to go elsewhere, but no they still offer the prices take money of the losers and tell the winners to fuck off.

Exactly. Ladbrokes were never like this in the past - the rot only set in a few years ago when they started to be run by accountants rather than bookmaking professionals who had served a long apprenticeship in the industry. Their 'traders' these days simply spend their time watching the betting exchanges and changing their underwear every time something's price suddenly comes down sharply. They wouldn't know an overround from an overcoat. Ron Pollard and Cyril Stein must be turning in their graves!

My guess as to your reply would be " thank you sir for your kind offer but I shall have to gracefully decline. Please take your offer and carefully place it up your rectum but please do so carefully so as to cause minimal damage as no doubt you will be repeating this process on a regular basis over the next seven days"

Close? Too soon?

This is what they are about.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s,there chief executive was a nice guy called Chris Bell.
He was a customer of mine and if I ever needed any tickets for sporting events that were hard to get,one phone call and he supplied them.
One year I said to him in conversation that I was taking my old fella to Cheltenham,he said don't buy any tickets and he would sort some out.
Few days later,I received 2 tickets for their box,in the box was Alan Ball(rip),John Motson,Peter Reid and most of The Ladbrokes directors.
Wine was being taken and plenty of banter was to be had, winners were non existent.
I mentioned to everyone that I had a good word for one at Sedgefield races,it was a plot to punt of the opening shows.I was about 7/1.
Everyone that was punting had a go,some were good amounts.
Chris Bell and the two other directors were in deep conversation about stakes and I kid you not, they had £12 win between them and did their bet on the TOTE.LOL
When it romped home 7/1 into 5/2 I think, they were moaning like mad with their return.
Maybe they thought £12 was a big bet and there in lies our problem.

If you're a remotely serious horse racing punter, then there really isn't much point bothering with Ladbrokes these days. Their odds are poor, their limits are pathetic and if you have a couple of decent winning bets, they'll zero your online account in no time.
