Grand Parade Guineas a huge success
10 years 6 months agoBURGER KING SPREADS FESTIVE CHEERS AT KENILWORTH RACECOURSE
20 DECEMBER 2014
Kenilworth Racecourse was abuzz today when more than 1000 children from around Cape Town were treated to a fun filled day in Santa’s Workshop hosted by BURGER KING South Africa.
Children from Zeekoevlei Primary School in Lotus River, The Shakier Foundation in Mitchells Plain and Smile Kids in Athlone, were welcomed by Executive Mayor Patricia de Lille and then whisked away to enjoy various activities. Craft making with Santa’s elves in a magical workshop, rides, puppet shows, games and face painting was the order of the day. Each child also got a goodie bag, a printed photograph with Santa and a gift.
“The spirit of Christmas always brings about a sense of joy and closeness and what better way to show love than by acts of kindness”, says Rozanna Kader, Marketing and Communications Director at BURGER KING, SA.
“We’d like to thank our partners, The City of Cape Town and PEPSI who have contributed towards making the day a success and more importantly, meaningful for all the children.”
In the Gr 1 Grand Parade Cape Guineas, which is regarded as South Africa's most prestigious classic, the Joey Ramsden-trained Act Of War proved himself the best three-year-old male in the land by sauntering to a comfortable victory under jockey Bernard Fayd'Herbe. He started odds on favourite and unwound a fantastic finishing effort in the straight to overtake the gallant KZN raider Harry's Son, who had flown in from Durban on the morning of the race. Act Of War won by 1,75 lengths and his stablemate Kingvoldt stayed on well to be just a head behind Harry's Son in third. It was Act Of War's sixth win on the trot and he is on course to joining his sire Dynasty as one of the all time great three-year-olds this country has ever seen. He was bred by Arc-En-Ciel stud. It was also a halcyon meeting for the horse's owners Markus and Ingrid Jooste as their colours were in the winner's enclosure on no fewer than six occasions. It was a memorable meeting too for trainer Ramsden as he had five winners, including two Graded feature events.

Well done.......................the timing for the children at Santa's workshop perfect. The Guineas itself was a thrilling event where we saw top 3 y/olds run to form.
Am sure this event will grow more with the passionate support of Mr.Hassen Adams and his team.

Sylv its mostly left to the sponsors to advertise their own race
we all know TT is basically defunct as an advertising tool, only a few hundred folk watch the channel
Avontuur got far more exposure than the grand parade race because Pippa and her team put in a gigantic effort personally

Grande parade has restructured and sold a lot of dead wood, they shifting a lot of focus to expanding Burger King in the country and a lot of the growth is attributed to that and the expected future earning. Bit misleading but decent growth rates for both all things considered.
