not one of them could tell how fit or unsound a horse is or how to bandage a leg or put a bridle together.

If they introduced barrier trials it would be great for punters
But shite for trainers imo
The staffing costs would soar

Bob, I need some of your horse racing "Insight".
In one of your posts yesterday, you say that the 50/1 on Klondike River was massive.
I looked and looked, but could not see anything.
However at the Bookie where I play, One of my friends had a cool 10,000/250 on it.
When I question him, he only gave vague comments, and mentioned Maujean.
Nothing concrete.
Please help.
I lost my R 500-00 for the day, but with Turffontein abandoning, I got some money refunded.
Whilst waiting for the Missus to come and pick me up, (Only 1 vehicle after a recent argument with a Kombi taxi), I looked at the racing at Doncaster.
I remember the postings on "Tropics" and "Jack Dexter". I played a small bet.
Neither came up.
I was looking through the Card, and saw "Mujazif" in the last race at 12/1.
I took 1400/100.
And guess what ? The rest is history as they say.
Going to collect today, and have a small punt on Greyville.

its a bit shite for trainers now isn't it ? - no owners, no punters, low turnovers.
Barrier trials wouldn't cost that much more extra to implement.
one extra race at a raceday, after the last race. Fully manned and published, and included with the official form.
The cost of not implementing it is far more than the cost of hiring and extra hand or two or, getting existing hands to man one more race. After all, there are on average 10 races now per race meeting, whereas years ago, there were only 7 or 8.

It has come to my attention that this requirement has not been followed. Trainers are required to present a horse that has been unraced for a period of 90 days or more, to the
stipendiary board, during starting stalls practice or by arrangement with the Stipendiary
This just about sums up the current effectiveness of the Jockey Club. Rules are there aplenty but very few are being enforced. Bravo to the individual who has had the courage to enforce this, but with respect, I believe whoah gets it spot on when he questions the stipes ability to measure fitness of the animal. So a horse is presented to the starting stalls after not having run for 90+ days. My experience of starting stall grading is that this takes place on the back straight of the track/training facility. Most trainers use this to get unraced horses certified ready to race. So now a trainer presents a horse to be certified "fit enough" to race. What does the stipe do if someone like Louisg presents Trip Tease and Negev at the same time ie. horses that race optimally over different distances? Does a 400m sprint up suffice? Does the stipe need to see Negev do 1400/1600 without blowing heavily? Without measured barrier trials I am afraid we are wasting each others time. Secondly, how is the information going to be relayed to the public? What will happen if stipe A declares Negev as fit and ready, and she needs the run? In theory this is a great rule, in practice it can not be of any help with the current tools, or rather lack thereof, in place.
