THE 2014 EMPEROR'S PALACE READY TO RUN SALE - SUNDAY 2 NOVEMBER
South Africa’s leading bloodstock auction company, BloodStock South Africa, is proud to announce the 2014 Emperor’s Palace Ready To Run Sale!
110 two year old thoroughbred racehorses will be offered for sale at the Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s world class Sales Complex in Johannesburg on Sunday 2 November. This follows the running of the Emperor’s Palace Ready to Run Cup at Turffontein Racecourse the day before – the race, worth a record-breaking R3.85 million this year, is restricted to horses bought from BloodStock South Africa’s 2013 Sale and the top 16 qualifiers will be fighting for payouts to 10th place.
Based on current entries, this year’s Sale is dominated by Balmoral Stud, the Mooi River based pre-training operation owned and managed by Marc and Nicola Coppez. Balmoral consigns in excess of 70 Lots with a wide selection of top class sires from around the country and abroad including a rare offering in South Africa by world leading sire, Bernardini (USA). By number, Koos and Lorraine de Klerk’s Yellow Star Stud, have the next biggest draft and they will be hopeful that their Var filly attracts plenty of attention. They are joined by Jane and Rodney Trotter’s Ambleway Thoroughbred Stables who offer 7 quality two year olds on behalf of the Cape-based Nutfield Stud of Beth and John Brandtner – their draft includes a trio of Western Winter’s progeny, now highly sought after following the passing of Lammerskraal Stud’s top stallion of many years. The Far End Stables of Jane Thomas have featured regularly over the years, complementing its pre-training operation in Mooi River and this year Jane offers 7 Lots for a variety of clients including an entry for Gary Player Stud. Anton Shepard (Beaumont Stud), Eugene Freeman (Bloand Stud) and Theo Kriel (Kriel Racing Stud) all offer single Lots for Sale and they would be hopeful of a decent gallop from their charges.
Yellow Star Stud is again the gallops venue for the majority of this year’s draft. On Thursday, 16 October, the horses will breeze over 400m on the turf track from 10h00 (tbc) with all gallops recorded for later viewing by DVD or online ( www.tba.co.za ). A fine KZN Midlands lunch will be served afterwards and as an innovation, a limited number of combi’s will be provided for interested parties leaving from Durban and Summerveld respectively. Early bookings are essential, please contact Pauline Smith on 011 323 5700 or pauline@tba.co.za. For horses being prepared outside of Mooi River, their gallops will be televised and the recording made available by Monday 20 October.
For early planning, please note the following in the lead up to the Sale (more details will be published in due course):
· Horses are expected to arrive at the TBA Sales Complex from Tuesday 28 October
· Piroplasmosis tests will be conducted on all colts and selected fillies – results are expected to be available on Friday 31 October
· The Cocktail Function for this year’s Ready To Run Sale will be held at Emperor’s Palace on Friday 31 October
· The Emperor’s Palace Ready To Run Cup will be held at Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday 1 November
· The 2014 Emperor’s Palace Ready To Run Sale starts on Sunday at 14h00
For all other enquiries, please contact Kevin Woolward or Peter Gibson directly and follow developments on the TBA Facebook Page and on Twitter

It is not difficult to be confused with the same sponsor. I wonder if Emperors will continue to sponsor both sales and whether they will both be called the Ready to Run sale?

Dear Bob
Press Release
I was entirely surprised by the CTS press release yesterday evening with the information that our TBA sale will be held on Friday 31st October and their plans for a sale on Sunday 2 November. The long-standing announced date of the TBA's BSA Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale are Friday 31st October and Sunday 2nd November. Indeed the date has been on our website for at least a year! No-one from CTS has contacted anyone at the TBA to discuss dates and certainly no-one at the TBA has given anyone at CTS the right to announce anything to do with TBA's BSA sales.
With the withdrawal of the Summerhill draft and after liaising with vendors, the decision was taken to have our cocktail party on Friday and the sale on the Sunday - the full details are as detailed in our letter sent yesterday. We have kept our auctioneers fully updated with these plans. If anyone at CTS had had the professional integrity and courtesy to contact us they would also have been informed of these plans.

Ready-to-Run Sale 2014

We have kept our auctioneers fully updated with these plans. If anyone at CTS had had the professional integrity and courtesy to contact us they would also have been informed of these plans.
In a meeting last week with Emperors Palace, we were told that they would not be renewing their exclusive sponsorship contract with us after December 31st 2014 as they were entering into a relationship with CTS. It is a great disappointment to us that our relationship with Emperors Palace has ended in this sad way.
The Ready To Run Cup sales race run at Turffontein belongs to the TBA. The affixing of the Emperors Palace name to the race was part of our sponsorship agreement with Emperors Palace which ends December 31st, 2014. The Cup itself is kindly provided by the Racing Association. Patrick Davis of Phumelela and Larry Wainstein of Phumelela have confirmed to us their firm assurance that the race belongs to the TBA. This is important as both organizations have also stated their policy to oppose the proliferation of sales races. Our attorneys are engaged on this matter to protect our interests.
I wish to thank our vendors for their loyalty and to all the buyers and breeders who have sent in messages of their encouragement and support. The BSA Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale 2014 is sure to be the most fantastic event.
Yours sincerely

Someone told me that the operator receives the money for the R2R race , but it goes through the books as earnings .
Then the purse for the race is taken from the stakes pot, surely this can't be true ?
Can't be !!!

Although i am no fan of any monopoly the way in which this whole debacle is being handled is once again just a reflection of the people involved and ultimately a reflection on the industry. How can you get "new blood" into horse racing when a select few clearly control the game and continue to behave in ways that are far from ethical & transparent???
As a question: What is the entrance fee for the RTR Cup race once your horse has qualified? I know you pay a fee to be eligible but is there an entrance fee once the horse qualifies?
Personally i would not buy a horse from any sale where Summerhill are involved, how do you go from promoting the TBA RTR Cup as the best thing since sliced bread to the CTS RTR??? What are they going to promote now, The CTS RTR Cup???
I would have thought that a company that challenges the TBA offers more than just guaranteed payments, maybe there is a company out there that would be willing to hold a sale where the reserve price is published in the catalog and bidders are identified upfront. A sale where the breeders have not asked trainers to bid to certain rand values, something that is transparent. Imagine a sale where there was no reserve & no buy-backs or other shenanigans?

Sire Power on show at RTR Sale
There is wide range of top-class stallions with progeny on offer at the 2014 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale.
From world-class sires, whose offspring sell at major auctions in both hemispheres, to some of South Africa’s top stallions, the 2014 RTR Sale has something for every buyer.
Stallions with offspring on November sale include the world renowned Bernardini, Henrythenavigator and I am Invincible, with the latter regarded as one of the most exciting young sires currently standing in Australia.
Top South African sires with juveniles on offer at the sale include Captain Al, Fort Wood, Judpot, Kahal, Silvano, Trippi, Var and Western Winter, while four of South Africa’s most exciting young guns – Elusive Fort, Lateral, Mambo In Seattle and Seventh Rock –also have lots on offer.
Stallions with their first representatives up for sale include the ill-fated Bankable, Just As Well, King’s Chapel, Noordhoek Flyer, Russian Sage, Tropical Empire and Visionaire. The latter’s first yearlings made a huge splash in the sales ring this year, with Visionaire’s first crop fetching up to R1.4 million.
A small, but select and quality packed, catalogue will also offer progeny of such well established sires as Antonius Pius, Ashaawes, Black Minnaloushe, Count Dubois, Horse Chestnut, Jay Peg, Mogok, Tiger Ridge, Toreador and Windrush.

With the 2014 Emperor's Palace Ready To Run Sale under six weeks away, more details of the events leading up to the Sale are emerging.
CATALOGUES
At the time of closing the Sale, 114 horses had been entered. The online catalogue is available on the website: www.tba.co.za and the innovative Ipad App is also ready for use.
The printed catalogues are expected to be available for distribution later this week and as per usual will be available at all racecourses and training centres. If you have not received a catalogue by 1 October, please call me directly on 083 406 4881 or at the TBA on 011 323 5700
BREEZE UP GALLOPS
A limited number of horses will breeze at Turffontein Racecourse on Monday, 13 October - video recordings will be uploaded shortly thereafter. Later in the week, the majority of the draft will go through their paces at Yellow Star Stud on Thursday, 16 October from 10h30.
Last year's event was a great success and those attending the gallops enjoyed a great day out in the Mooi River countryside with fine food, wine and music being enjoyed by all. This year, in conjunction with Balmoral Stud and the other consignors including Yellow Star Stud, Ambleway Stables, Far End Stables and Greenhill Farm, Bloodstock South Africa is hoping for an even bigger turn out from buyers and local breeders - for catering purposes, please RSVP by 1 October: office@balmoralstud.co.za or sms to 072 476 5107 Marc / 082 926 9524 Nicola / 082 552 6525 Caroline
To assist with those travelling from the greater Durban area, two shuttles are on standby to depart from Greyville Racecourse and Summerveld Training Centre - bookings on a first come, first serve basis - please contact Pauline Smith on 011 323 5700 to make your reservation.
SALES WEEK
The majority of the horses are expected to arrive at the TBA Sales Complex on Sunday 26 October. This will give the horses time to settle into their new surroundings and give buyers ample opportunity to view horses at their leisure.
In order to accommodate buyers who might wish to attend both Sales, Bloodstock South Africa has moved the Cocktail Function to the Thursday evening. Final details to follow in due course.
The early log for this year's Emperor's Palace Ready To Run Cup is expected to be released this week. Once the final field has been announced, Bloodstock South Africa will be in touch with connections of runners in the big race worth R3.85m this year to arrange hospitality at the races.
EMPEROR'S PALACE READY TO RUN SALE - SUNDAY 2 NOVEMBER
With the smaller catalogue and numerous pre-sale viewing days available this year, the Sale is scheduled to start at 12h30 with an estimated finishing time of 17h00. This will also enable out-of-town buyers the chance to get an early flight home.
With numerous catering options available, we look forward to hosting buyers and visitors alike.

I think with all this infighting going on between cts and bsa the bsa sale will dish up a lot of bargains and a much fairer chance of the smaller buyer and trainer to get a bite at the rtr cup race
