I Don't Know James Maree BUT..................

I don't know James Maree personally but every time his name crops up in the media he seems to be involved in some selfless cause or act of charity.

He first came to my attention many years ago when he was still a jockey.....and a pretty successful one too.

Since then he has been inextricably linked to, amongst other things, the training of grooms and work riders. One wonders to what extent S Khumalo's recent crowning as SA Champion Jockey can be directly or indirectly attributed to James Maree's efforts over the past decades.

A true servant of the industry and probably well deserving of greater recognition by the industry.

He is also a very polite and always ready to help. Fantastic character.

James is areal asset for our industry he really puts a lot of time and effort in to the improvement of the work riders but what baffles me is that if iam right he has never really received the recognition he deserves may its time for the ra or such a body push to give him that recognition

Could not agree more. Mr Maree is a real gentleman. met him a few times on the course, always polite and unassuming and he is well related! The industry should definitely do something to honour his lifes work!

I cannot Agree More. Why didn't he get some special award or recognition at the awards last night ( Holding thumbs for next year ). This man gives tirelessly to the industry and continues to do so. Wish something could be done to honour him sooner rather than later as he getting old. Keep up the good work mate !!!

my late dad....all of 20 odd years ago...said James Maree and Brian Strydom...

and I'm not sure if they lived up to his expectations....

or if he had great foresight....

and it was not only for their riding ability...but true gentleman....

We need a HALL OF FAME ASAP - Should announce inductees at the Equus Awards - I always think people should be inducted before they leave this World as posthumous accolades are wasted on the dead!!
