Turffontein - 7th
10 years 10 months ago
Not normally a stable or horse I go for but I do give Meissa a massive chance tomorrow from a racy draw(had an unproven Graded reputation but perhaps better in this class) - Has a victory over the C/D and perhaps 1450m is what he wants - Gets an inform pilot and that stable is in form - 6/1

R3, Future Fantastic should run a big race from a good draw and should appreciate the extra. Ran a cracking debut in open company, with natural improvement must be the one to beat tomorrow.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Gold Cup Girl should have FF beating, Apropos form looks dodgy.

R1 Worth noting before I start that the reserves are drawn 1,4 and 6... Another de Kock debutant (supposedly?) receiving support, drawn 13 with Nwayo up, no more than a watching brief for me. Amber Jet could be involved but drawn in 11 and I think might again find one or two better on the day. Despite the market currently favouring (and should perhaps be monitored) the A Laird newcomer, Smart Call with Marwing up, who might not be so poorly drawn in 9 assuming the reserves don't run, over his stablemate, I'll side with the experience of Jay River, who has Mienie up. Carla The Rebel has had 2 fair runs and if progressing could overturn the form with JR from a good draw in 2. But, that was JR's first run in blinkers, he is now 1kg better off, also has a good draw and has previous course/bend experience, my hunch is he will confirm the form. A complete idiot that can be considered for a small e/w or place nibble is Royal Consent given the big odds. About 3l behind CTR and JR in his penultimate outing and on that run it would highly unlikely he will challenge those two but possibly worth noting, he could have a preference for this course taking silver on both c/d runs and could end up being drawn as low as 3. Jay's River x Carla The Rebel x Amber Jet.

R2 I put a line through most though not convinced the form of the principals is all that strong so a surprise possible. From the Orvieto form lto, given the poor start and ground he had to make up then I think it likely Taiwan Treasure will come out best and overturn the form with Victorious Royal. Both were running on, That could well be the exacta but I think the form of Unbroken's run behind Magnum Opus may prove to be a little stronger so, sorry Mantis (and welcome!) lol, I'll also go with Mienie to complete a double in the first two. World Domination would have been worth a small investment at 16s and should still be considered, he was only 2,75l behind Orvieto on debut though the latter could well have improved since while WD has been rested 11 weeks. Crete does look held but back on the turf and with a low draw again he might not be far away but not much of a price imo... Unbroken x Taiwan Treasure x Victorious Royal

R3 I'm in agreement with Rowdy in thinking that the A Propos form might not come too much and though there are some conflicting collateral form lines, I think Gold up Girl could prove to be the right one having had two decent runs on c/d previously. That said, I am siding more with trying an e/w on Raging Princess who, despite a wide draw in 11, I think will be right there. Seems better over this kind of distance, with a respectable second over 1600 lto (the 3rd, who was 7.25l behind RP, won nto, albeit on the sand) and the form of the field she met here over 1450 has proved quite strong so her 5th in that seems quite respectable, she was also drawn 11 that day. In that race, Red Star (on debut) finished 3l infront of RP and nto RS beat GCG by 6.25l over 1600. There has been support for Ruby Ruby out of the A Propos form but I can't see why unless the stable knows more than the bare form suggests... RAGING PRINCESS X GOLD CUP GIRL X FUTURE FANTASTIC

R4 and the only other one I have looked t so far so this is the end of the jottings you'll be relieved to hear
This looks a tough, competitive but somewhat weak handicap. Saint Claire has to be considered having had some fair form leading up to her win in her penultimate run but nothing has gone on from that race, she was disappointing nto herself and has now had a 10 week break. Of the ones at bigger prices, Brainstorm was of a little interest. She does not seem the most consistent but is often not beaten too far and did place in her only c/d run to date, and has got bronze twice from her 3 d runs, with a decent draw in 3 she might be competitive, Catch A Thief and Belt Up both have high draws but could be thereabouts if repeating the runs of their last meeting, over the shorter trip and with a 2.5kg pull, I think BU might be able to reverse the form of that run. The one I will play e/w though is Penny Fare assuming she has returned well from her win over 1160 on Sunday and is raring to go again! I thought that trip would be too short for her but she finished well that day to win nicely and in this field I think she could prove very competitive again from a decent draw in 5. Although she has not won on this course the fact that she has placed 6 times in her 7 runs here would seem to be an added positive... PENNY FARE x BELT UP x CATCH A THIEF

R5 NB... through tired eyes and mind!!! lol Disappointed to again find that one that I think has a chance at a price has already been supported but I still think Bodybuilder worth a look based on his close 3rd to Norgay three runs back when a couple of these rivals were behind. He has travelled since and that might have affected his performances in his last 2 runs. Has a 1st, 3rd and 4th in his 4 c runs, all from draws on the high side, has a good draw in 2 here with Mienie up. King Frost has been running well of late, the last three times under this appie and is likely to be thereabouts again. Arkansas is on 3rd run after a short rest and has put in some fair efforts recently, he has another good draw and could go close. The win vote though goes to the consistent Microstate, He has gone close the last twice with the decent appie Munger up taking weight off and hopefully this time can store sufficient energy to finish the job. Drawn 1 here and has 2 silvers from 3 c/d attempts and 6 places in his 7 d runs... MICROSTATE x BODYBUILDER x ARKANSAS
