Sandy Fletcher - RIP

Former trainer Sandy Fletcher, passed away on Wednesday evening.

Trainer of many Henry Devine horses back in the day. Often got soupmeat to become a gourmet meal. Went to PE for a stint and did exceptionally well for Des Renou senior, with horses like White Wash Willy, that left Jhb as battlers and ended up winning a shitload of races.

Underrated trainer. He got a job in Bahrain last year. Ate a dodgy samoosa that turned his stomach and, ultimately, caused his death.

One of the true battlers, but an exceptionally good judge.

He bought Kharg Island from me (trained by Jean Heming) and went on to beat Royal Flo (SA Invitation winner) also trained by Jean Heming. At the lead in, Jean praised Sandy for winning, because she did not think Kharg Island could improve to that extent. High praise indeed.

I'll miss you my friend.

The funeral for Sandy is at 2PM on Friday, 20th July, at Doves, Randburg. 147 Malibongwe Drive, Strijdom Park. Feel free to tell anyone that knew him.
