Laff Comments about owners
11 years 2 months ago
Was listening to Laff and Dees wax lyrical about owners and how trainers make excuses to owners about bad runs. It was tongue in cheek but Laff did mention that many small trainers keep a small string because they did onto like taking the pressure from some owners. I guess he was talking about himself. It does come back to the point of how some trainers are successful while others just remain small.

I would choose one who actually spends some time training the horse for a start with his set of eyes

Laff is not a bad trainer at all.
He winshis fair share of races and doesn't necesarrily have the best of horses.
When he was given a chance with Alesh, he did well for him and imo neither Love struck nor admirals eye have set the worl alight since leaving him

I am very lucky to have a great bunch of owners including 2 successful ex trainers and they all understand the game well. If the horse is not good enough and he has had enough chances then he must go. There is never any pressure to run them and most love coming up some mornings to watch their horses work and have some breakfast and then to the stables to see their horses. There are owners around that are very difficult but not going to mention names as they are not with me. As an old trainer once said" 1 person can train 100 horses but 2 people cannot train 1". Let the trainer get on with the job you pay him for. They are the most successful owners.

Dave is a small trainer and he is transparent and has the passion. Have you ever heard of a trainer that sleeps with his horses when they are sick?????????????

Very true Craig - leave the training to the trainers. No pressure and also don't force the trainers to run the horses and then when it performs badly the trainers get blamed for non performance
Some owner should just take out their own licenses seeing they know so much
