the bookmakers have three times more players for soccer - The Nigerians (new punters) fill the halls at the two East Rand Boomakers I frequent, taking ten match plus combos - The tote has a fraction of this and I see a queue of five people with two tellers at the Tote while the bookmakers have 7-10 tellers(Keith Ho must have about 15 to 20 tellers) 20 people long
- If bookmakers pay less attention to Racing and more to sport then less money goes to funding Racing. The fight with bookmakers will damage Racing and it is a fight the bookmakers will win either by diminishing their interest in Racing or finding ways to outfox PGE as they always do. In this war the collateral damage will only be Racing and its exposure to new clients

Just under 2 years ago my dad fell outside my house and was hospitalized.

He'd been a smoker for 50 years, and although he'd always wanted to stop he actually enjoyed it despite knowing that it wasn't really in his best interests. After being immobalized in a hospital bed for 10 days,he asked the doctor if he could please prescribe him something to help him stop smoking. The doctors reply was that he'd already beaten the addiction after 5 days,so it was just a case of whether he had the will power to just maintain beating his addiction.

See any correlation here perhaps?

I race for a living,so for now anyway I just have to suck up this shit.

Anybody who's not reliant on this to survive should be walking away, just on principle.

Have to agree with you, JAP, I punt for a living as well, so we need to just take it on the chin.

One thing, though, my second TV was always on Tellytrack, and now, since I don't punt on local racing, I haven't seen or heard TT since February. Don't miss it at all! :-)

......since the end of February my spend and turnover has decreased by 40%.....since we lost Hong Kong racing I am now in the red....as Hong Kong action for we was very profitable.....also with no international live feed I will not punt UK flat racing any more.....where in the past I was very successful on unexposed 2 and 3 year old first timers in the maidens and the juvenile futurities and classic group racing.....I will continue persevere with local racing through the end of the up coming KZN season but there after..... I may turn it up completely.....8-)

I think very soon some wise person will take a stand and see the folly of this ill-planned move and heads will roll - Imagine a drug dealer importing a narcotic and then when his target market is hooked and he is making good money he decides not to import the drug again but tells his clients they can have it if they go to the country of source(tote) when they have been happy for him to deliver to their homes before - Too much work for me so no foreign betting - I'm sure the Foreign Partners will soon complain that too little money is co-mingling from our side and the axe will fall!!

Nothing has changed for me - but I have to agree that it seems to be a dumb move in terms of turnover, etc.

Unlike most other posters I have gone totally the other way :

I am still playing UK racing. Ironically, and because I am primarily using Timeform Radio instead of 'pictures', I have seen a small IMPROVEMENT in my punting because it has become a good deal more clinical and less emotional. I cannot help but notice that I must sometimes be the only person playing on Interbet as my bets often comprise well over 60% of the totals traded.

If I REALLY want to see the race I tune in to the delayed transmission on the odd occasion. As there are often quite big gaps between races the delay is only detrimental when 3 or more meetings are offered concurrently.

I only use racing to try and build a bank to spend on sport so I wouldn't be fussed if it disappeared altogether.

I have not even seen a local race since the change so that's a huge plus for me.

The only serious impediment is the fact that local studio personnel have been introduced into the system. As usual they know little or nothing about the fare on view so that sometimes gets a bit irritating as they spew an almost uninterrupted stream of garbage into the ether.

Whilst Super 15, Premier League & Champions League are on I really have no need for racing at all.

Garrick, this is the MOST bizarre statement I have ever heard :S .... So the assumption is you actually win on the horses so you can lose on sports betting? If you are winning on the horses, why not continue growing your stake on the horses? If you are winning at Sports Betting...why waste money on horses trying to improve your stake on sports betting.... ??
Maybe it is just too early on Sunday morning..I need more caffeine.......

Just reading threw all of the comments made surely telly trek or some one will catch a wake up.

But saying this I live in the UK but dont play the horses here I only play in SA (not very successful lately)
I think part of the problem is that it is the UK broadcasters that has caused this problem for SA

The reason I am saying this is that there are 2 company's doing the broadcasting.
My local bookmaker told me that he has to pay a fortune (£30 000) for the licence to have both channels in his shop and if he doesn't have both the punters would not come in

even at home if I want to watch the racing I have to subscribe to sky special channel but on BBC on a Sat it is free again only on some race tracks.
Maybe this is why you dont have UK racing.

@ The Madji - Not a bizarre statement at all if you noted the word 'try'. And I use the winnings solely to fund my long term positions on sporting events solely because the odds are much better than game-by-game.
