As an experiment, I deposited the same amount into my Tellybetting account and into my Marshall's account and took the same bets over a month and recorded the progress of the two accounts...this was done in the post-mystery overseas punter period...
My Marshall's account balance was 30% more than my Tellybetting account balance at the end of the period...a few reasons for this"
- fixed return versus uncertain return that fluctuated late and, at times, even after pool reflected as CLOSED (refer @ Observer1 above)
- picked up bets for horse placing 4th in 14 horse CARDED fields...tote pays three places up to 15 RUNNERS...
- picked up bets for horse placing 3rd in fields that had 8/9 horses CARDED but reduced to 7 RUNNERS due to scratchings / late scratchings...tote pays places for 7 RUNNERS...
I'll take the 30% more thank you very much...
I can understand the argument about the tote being better for exotics like PA, P6, JP, QRT, TRI due to limits imposed by bookies...but I find it hard enough picking a single horse to PLACE so know my limitations in being able to pick multiple winners...so not for me...
Each to their own...

Observer what you are describing is not the open bet....you are describing Fixed odds a bet that the bookies have always offered...what the punter does here is not hurting the situation.....what hurts is a bookie that gives you tote odds on wins places swingers trifecta quartet Jackpot Pick 6.....the money he collects from these bets goes straight to his pocket.....

Phumelela
Dirty totes/poor facilities/non existent customer service/try getting the correct race on there telephone service/online facility crashes on big race day... No customer loyalty programme.
Can you really blame the punter who takes the open bet.

Should anyone really be loyal to people that show you no loyalty? Take your bet where you feel comfortable as long as it is LEGAL which the open bet is

I would chuck racing in a breath if I was told I couldn't bet with a bookie
As a punter I don't give a hoot about stakes

Agra what u smoking lol. The tote would take the milk out your coffee. I would love to know where the chop of the soccer pools go and why is their take on soccer bigger than that of racing?

I much rather prefer betting with a bookmaker for the open bet rather than the tote. Typical example would be betting on quartets, i regularly play multiple combinations on a single race shortly before the off, the hassle of filling in a betslip or calling out numbers which an incompetent operator takes incorrectly are very high ot standing in queues and i miss my bets anyways whereas i find for eg. the hollywood website and mobile app to be very user friendly as i can select my multiple combinations within a few seconds just before the off, no hassles.
